    Hello folks.

    Will this idea works?

    1) Print on clear in reverse with OPOS marks.
    2) Backed with white.
    3) On a light table colour the OPOS marks with a pen or permanent marker.
    4) Send to OPOS cut?

Will the OPOS read my markers made by hand?

I’m doing detailed print and cut. We are not allowed to apply from the outside of the shop, hence print on clear – backed with white.

Hi. Before you back in white… put some masking tape over the reg marks then after backing…. cut away the white then peel away the masking tape to reveal the reg marks. Cut as normal.

    Hope that helps.

depending on the size of the graphic, I usually just cut a piece of white (for the lam) that is jsut a bit smaller than the reg marks, then the machine can accurately read them still.

I haven’t done it personally, but have seen one of our lads doing it with the masking tape and reverse cutting white backed prints for windows.

We do the same as Hugh – position the marks further out towards the edges, and have a roll slit down narrower for backing up.

why reverse the file before cutting ?? i don’t, sorry just thought depends on the work flow.

i just stroke light pressure a new blade around the reg marks and remove the white vinyl only the idea of the masking tape is good, saves cutting to deep.

not a lot of help really but i started so i will finish.

    enjoy

As John Hughes says masking tape over marks, laminate then carefully cut away the laminate to reveal the masking tape then peel carefully and send to cutter, we do this a lot and works every time.

I was not using the application tape method.
I simply backed with white inside the OPOS marks allowing enough for the OPOS eye to do its job.

On the second job today I even added extra rectangles left and right of the artwork. This helps me Illustrator to place the marks further apart from the artwork.
This allowed me to back with white without coming to close to OPOS marks / cut artwork.

I did this mainly because I cannot control the placement on the OPOS marks with AI and Corel Draw. They are placed automatically around artwork. Maybe there is a setting were this can be changed. I don’t know.

I will always do the option in the middle of the attached photo as I think it saves time. But then I’m more than happy to be told otherwise.

You are right Chris. No need to reverse file. This is done a the beginning when preparing the file as normal cut file. Print on clear in reverse, backed with white.

Basically this job should be approached as a normal print and cut job – and care should be taken to "clear" the OPOS markers for the machine to read them.
