  • will the light show through a digital print on lightbox?

    Hi All

after a little bit of advise if i may.
I have a client who is after a image of a cartoon fish on a light box.
Now if i make it up in layered translucent vinyl i have a feeling the light will not show through the clours properly.
Also if i digi print it i have a feeling it still won’t look right.
could you if possible give me some advise on the right media to use on a sign like this please.

i’ll post the picture if needed but it’s on my pc at home so i can’t do that till tonight

    Thanks

    Paul

The trick is not to layer the vinyl, but to inlay it. Hard to say without seeing the image whether vinyl is appropriate, but cartoon-like images are usually possible. Just remember to overlap any inlaid colours slightly to avoid nasty white lines around the edges.

Dont lay colour over colour on vinyl translucent. Each colour must go on a white base. You should leave a 1mm overlap on the sign to avoid it pulling away and leaving a white edge.

I do a lot of translucent work, and the effects can be very good. but it is all in the preparation, and use good quality translucent for the better colour clarity.

    Love to see a picture.

    Cheers

A digital print on the correct backlit will work 100% , we and other digital printers do tons of it. There are many tpes of print media that work perfectly.

Hi guys heres a pic of the image the customer wants to use,

I have a feeling i won’t be able to get a better quality pic of this, so it’s going to have to be vectored first. ( and it’s the customers choic eof pic not mine, my hands are tied)

all thoughts on the best way to apply thios to the lightbox are welcome.

Rod excuse me for beinga tad thick but could you expand on this please

In my ignorance i would have thought all lightboxes have the same type of lights in them ect. but then again having not worked with many light boxes i’m totaly in teh dark on this

Thanks again guys for you input

I think Rodney means on the correct backlit film.

Anyway, that image is certainly do-able in vinyl. It’s just a case of thinking ahead before you digitise. Create all of the fills butting ( or nearly butting) to each other and then lay the black linework over the top. Where there is no black line where 2 colours meet, just overlap them slightly. I’d be inclined to trace this image with a black pen onto tracing paper before scanning, just because the original is so steppy.
