  • why wont these files open after formatting hardware?

Hi guys here is my problem.

I have 3 .CDL files. they are all saved as seperate pages ie
    vehicle_brands.cdl
    taz.cdl
    vehicle_badges.cdl

ok, i have been recently updating all my files and doing the odd bit of digitising to tidy up some of the images, I have coloured all the images and set them at the minimum sizes that i want to cut, to be able to cut one of each out to put on seperate sheets of corex for advertising purposes.

I saved the .cdl files as usual, and they opened up perfectly as usual.

Over the weekend i needed to format my hard drive, I have re-installed everything and updated all software including Signlab.

But the 3 particular files i was working on before the format, will not open but all my other files will, but these 3 keep crashing Signlab…. the reason i believe this is happening is because there is too much data in the particular files for signlab to cope with when loading.

What i need is for someone with signlab to try opening the file (link at bottom of page), if they manage to get it open, could you delete everything that is not on one of the four boards, and re-save the file as a .cdl and send it back to me please. (when i’m on about boards etc, you will see what i mean if you get the file open)

I will appreciate any help on this matter.

If you manage to help me, i have 2 other files with the same problem, i would appreciate any help with them also.

    Thanks in advance

    Jas….

p.s the file is 1.58mb to download from my server

    Hi Guys

Thanks for all your help on this topic via the boards/pm & email

Peter has helped me out, we sorted the problem down to it being a colour paette problem, when peter converted one of the files to monochrome only and sent the file back to me, it opened up first time, with the other two files I created a palette with just black & white and the two files opened, so i’m now sorted, thanks for all your help.

    Hi Jas

hope this isn’t another ‘silly’ question – would you mind posting how you did this, so I can give it a go?

    Thanks

    Lorraine
    Options/Pallette/ shop pallette wizard
Then just select black and white I presume. Save it and then set it as your default or load from a new sheet.
Thats how I presume Jas, did it But perhaps he has another method.
I dont know how this solved his problem though, .

    Hi Guys

Peters correct in how i set the palette.

I’m with Peter on this, i don’t see how the colours in a palette could stop a file from opening, as the palette is made up from what ever colours there are within the file.

I had been messing with palettes a few days before my format of the hard drive, and i thought these were the only ones that were affected, but upon inspection of my customer jobs, a few of them had the same problem, i’m all sorted now and have managed to get them all open again and re-colour them all.

I’m still not convinced it’s a 100% Palette problem though.

I origionally thought it was a memory problem as one of the files that wouldn’t open was 1.58mb but then it would let me open a file .CDL file that was 2.6mb, so that pretty much ruled that out.
Mind you i built this pc and i know that it would take a lot to cause a memory problem it runs on 2048 DDR memory and is an Athlon 64.

Thanks again for your replys guys and thanks again to Peter who helped me out, it’s very much appreciated.

    Hi Jas

as I said before, I also have problems at times with colours. Mine seems to be when I have a fair few clipart outlines in one file. If I try to colour a piece, it either takes ages or stops responding & closes.

Really don’t know why-maybe Dave or Peter would have an inkling? The guy I buy my computers from has no idea-says he’s not familiar with Signlab. Basically he’s happy to take my money but not to solve my problem (hot)
And I’m not asking him again!

Ok, cant do, Peter I don’t have the ‘shop palette wizard’ option. Thanks anyway.
