  • why wont my PC60 print & cut more than one spot colour?

Posted by Alex Pirozek on March 20, 2007 at 8:49 pm

I cant seem to print and cut more than 1 spot colour at a time, it seems to print more than one colour in spot but won’t cut after until I remove all the objects in colour from the design but leave the outline/cutline and send it to printer again. I also tried printing a gold spot square on to a blue spot larger square, it prints the blue and leaves the gold bit blank and cuts round the square but wont print the gold in the blue square. Its obviously something in my printer settings but I think I need a step by step guide on all the settings to eliminate the PC60. I’ve made sure that I’ve got the correct barcodes on the ribbons and changed al the colours in the design to std uniform colours. I’m using Corel X3 by the way.

Any help would be greatly welcomed,

    Alex.

by chance you are not using the layer command are you.
if the printer stops with the colour light flashing at colour change then it can not find the correct ribbon and will not continue

Not sure about X3 but in signlab the colour management option has to be unchecked to print spot colours.

Obvious I know, but are you checking the values? It is normally better to select each spot colour as a custom colour and input the properties manually.

No I think it might be software related as it goes back to the base point with the spot colour ribbon picked up but then just stops there. The busy light is off and it looks as if the machine has finished what its doing, i’ve waited a bit but nothing happens. Like I mentioned before it will print a number of spot colours but will not cut after, or it will only print one spot colour only if I choose a gold or silver in the design.
It’s nothing major but it’s it’ll be interesting to see what causing it but I’m sure over time I’ll sort it.
The machine prints and cuts fine other than that.

    Thanks for the replies,

Ok, I’ve looked at the advanced printer settings but couldn’t find anything obvious; I have a simple 2 colour design in Corel with a boundary/outline in black or yellow. If I try and print and cut this it will print the blue, then pick up the red and print the red and then stops there with the red still in the holder with the head retracted away from the vinyl and with no flashing lights or busy lights on. Now it should at this point put the red back and go back and finish the cutting off, but it doesn’t.
If I change all the colours in the design for black and change the outline in the design to yellow it will print in black, put the ribbon back and then cut like it should. I don’t know if I’ve the latest XP PC60 printer driver or is it something stupid that I’m not doing or setting in the printer properties before I hit print.
I’ve tried to enclose some screen shots of my settings but i cant so here is the list

    Paper Output : = 24” x 33”
Cutting: What to cut: = By colour
    Select colour: = Yellow
    Cutting speed : = 20cms

    OutPut data:
    Printing: = ON
    Cutting: = ON
    Formfeed: = ON

Process Cartridge: = No process CR-MR(Resin)
Cartridge for greyscale: = Greyed out
    BackPrint: = Off

    Special
    Red Cartridge: = RED
    Green: = OFF
    Blue: = BLUE
    Yellow: = OFF
    Black: = OFF
    White: = OFF
    Gold: = OFF
    Silver: = OFF

    UCR: =Spot colour

    Metafile Spooling: OFF

By the way it prints and cuts fine in CMYK mode.

Alex, again apologies if this is just stating the obvious…

I would set the cut line as a hairline .001 or whatever the smallest is in corel, then cut by: ——– instead of colour. From memory the contour line should be black when setting it like this.

It’s a while since I ran our pc60, but I always found it a very fickle machine! Infact last job I used it for I ended up plugging it into a different pc and although as far as I could see the settings were the same it suddenly went!

I’ll give that a go, trouble with it is, while you’re still learing the machine you sometimes get lost in what you have changed in the settings and end up going round in circles. Im sure its not the machine but more to do with my little knowledge i have with this machine. I could do with a basic print/cut setting guide in corel so i can cross reference it to what i have and do.
Im sure i’ll get there in the end.

Alex, just asking the guy who normally runs the pc60 and he was saying that he does it as I said, but

    cut: ‘solid’
    process cart: ymck cr-mr
    UCR: photo colour

Again we would choose custom in the special section and input the cmyk/rgb properties from the pallet

Some of these don’t seem to make sense, but it’s what worked for us!

Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be!
