  • why is the weld option not visible please?

    Hello, me again

I was just wondering, I am playing around trying to get together with corel. I have some words that i am trying to cut in a fancy font.
When it cuts the tails of the letters bleed into the next letter.
I can’t remember what I was told about how to get rid of this??
I really hope you don’t mind helping out such a simpleton.. But we all have to start somewhere..

Thanks again guys, you don’t know how much of a life line you are.

I think you need to convert to curves first.

You should be able to select all and then weld…….without converting to curves. What version are you using?

Is it highlighted when you try something else? Try two outlined boxes, select all and weld. Not sure what is wrong. Post a pic of what you are trying t weld maybe?

Maybe you have more than one layer?

In Corel 9, I always had to weld before combining.
Otherwise it would be choppy with holes where it should have welded.
But it converts to curves as it welds.
Can’t remember what I do in Corel 12.
    Now I’ve confused myself!

I think I’ll have another beer.
    Bud Light Lime.
    Much nicer than Miller Chill.

Ive just tried it in V12 with some text in an overlapping font (only see it when you remove the text fill). The weld option is not highlighted, however in V12 (might be the same in X3) look in the "Window" menu option, select "Dockers" and then open "Shaping" which is basically the weld tools.

What machine do you have, and are you cutting direct from Corel?? Might need to change your line colour or thickness based on your machine prefs………

Well i have got a graphtec ce5000-60 with coreldraw.
To explain why i am such a spanner – I got the cutter last year with Coreldraw, i have always used computers easily and thought that it would be "Easy" to teach myself, I have finally got around to using it hense the reason for the initial glitches and very simple" questions.
You never know until you try things – And boy am i lucky that I found you guys or all hope would have gone out the window.
Excuse me if i don’t understand technical terms, it’s just that this is all new.
    Thanks again

just tried it in V12 and as Harry said no need to convert to curves. I typed the text selected all with no fill and changed the outline (f12) to 0.001mm then welded all worked fine.

    F12 Love the shortcut….thanks.

Ive now got into the habit of setting the default line width before I start doing anything. Blank canvas, select the line thickness with nothing selected and it brings up an "apply to" dialog box and I tick it all and then set the line to .001 and off I go…………

Good idea, still now i send a job to print and nothing happens, after several attempts i realise that the outline is not 0.001 change that and oh what a surprise it cuts!!

i dont know where this .001 mm line comes from it should be a hairline which is the first line selection of the pen nib bar.
somebody is going to tell me that a hairline is .001mm if i put in .001 mm in my v10 is says none.

it can be any outline that is less than .01 mm but the first option is the preferred one due to its ease of application.

if you make multiple sizes of the same object please ensure that the scale with object line thickness is off.

Not sure what cutter you use Chris but in v12 if i select hairline nothing, if i use .001 it fires up (just what grafityp told me). I use a GCC Signpal.

Ive got a GCC JaguarIII and it will not cut hairline, instructions form Grafityp was to use .001mm and I have to set it each time…minor pain in the butt!!!!! however Corel is the program Ive been using since V4!

If you attempt to change the line thickness without anything selected it will ask if you want to do this from now on for graphics text etc. change line thickness to 0.001mm and apply and voila. Now all new objects will have that thickness instead of hairline (which works for my Summa through winplot and Mistral/Posterprint).

Save your workspace options prior to closing and this should stay the same each time you fire up CorelDraw.

Thats what I have done with Corel X3 and my Graphtec, works a treat.

Will have to give saving the workspace a go as I was not aware that the .001mm setting would be retained as its not one of the default thicknesses…………many thanks for the tip
