  • why is the cmyk for black changing in CS2 please?

    Hi Guys,
I recently started using Illustrator CS2
I have one question I always set the CMYK of my black to C=50, M=0, Y=0, K=100

But for some reason when i save my file as an eps the CMYK percentage change to C=86, M=66, Y=61, K=74.

Can anyone tell me why the CMYK percentage of the black background in CS2 is changing and how can I stop it. 🙂
    Thank You
    Nancy

Is the color changing when you reopen it in Illustrator or when you import it into another program.

I opened up my black swatch in Illustrator and it was 100K change it to C50, K100 and save it as an eps. Reopened it and it preserved the color.

What are you Color Settings(Shift+Ctrl+K) set at?

I don’t have that option. Mine says Emulate Illustrator 6. Both my Color Management Policies for RGB and CMYK are set to OFF.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but if you go into the General Preferences there is an “Appearance of Black Setting”.

I think it has more to with the profile though. Maybe try the Preserve Numbers for the CMYK in the Color Management Policies.

that setting in preferences is already set 2 display all black accurately and output all blacks accurately .
Oh well don’t stress its not a big deal. i though ill ask the question and maybe someone knows about it.
Its not that big problem thank you Bryan.

Slightly off topic but has anyone had problems trying to open Illustrator CS .ai files with previous versions of the pro gramme. I am finding anything saved as an .ai in CS isn’t back compatible and won’t open in previous versions, no matter how its saved.
This is becoming a real pain as more and more are sending me artwork created on CS.
I am still using Verison 10 for my everyday drawing package. Is there anything I could be overlooking or should I stop complaining and upgrade ?

    Hi Dave,
This is normal i use version 9, 10 cs 1 and CS 2
I always save my eps files as version 9. cos its the only one that if things go wrong shading and gradient effects etc i can go into version 9 and open it. in 11 i have to export to 9 in 10 save eps as and in cs 2 similar its always tell your client cos i get that a lot 2 ask them to rasterize cos things do go wrong especially when there is gradient and drop shadow done in CS2 and opening it in 10 it doesn’t like it not sure why but i think it for a purpose so all people upgrade. 🙂 if you need any help let me know.
