Posted by Ryan Fairweather on December 5, 2006 at 2:39 pm

Just taken delivery of some white truck vinyl and the adhesive is virtually non existent! It hardly even stick to my finger!

Tried it on the curtain side and it stuck down and was very easily pulled off with my finger nail….thats not normal surely?

Tried getting an answer out of APA but everyone speaks really bad english!!

    help required

    Hi George,

just had a call from Luca in Italy and apparently its normal and the glue ‘goes off’ over a 24hr period.
After which you cannot remove it at all. Important to inform the customer not to use or wash within that period.

Feel bad for complaining about the language thing but my wife is french and works here and everyone understands her as she has made the effort to do so.

I don’t think an English supplier should have staff that cannot understand or make themselves understood and there is no-one there that you can be passed onto if that situation arises.

Probably be lynched now….sorry people! 😳

Same here, he is going to send it through the truck wash 1st.Weather may shut me down before we start though as due for gales and rain storms on Thursday.

Ordered yesterday afternoon and got today which was excellent but i wasn’t completely confident it would turn up as i was not sure if she understood me 😀

Cost was £197 for 25m of 1220 wide white.

Put a tester on a curtain a couple of hrs ago and it is definitely ‘going off’ as he promised so fingers crossed for Thursday.

As an after thought, i know you are interested in bikes, i may be trying my hand at a bit of endurance racing next yr! 😀 More time on the bike than the standard 10 lap rush.!

Thanks for the info are you doing a series of endurance or just a couple of one off events.
we tried to get a team for the bol but couldn’t get the finances together.
my mate does some cant remember who runs them but as you say much better than a ten lap dash.
some of the guys doing it are super human fit.
i go under the knife again next Tuesday to rebuild my shoulder fingers crossed as its been cancelled 4 times after that its trying to get my leg moving again so i can sit on a bike. i am so unfit its unreal. hope i don’t fall off the platform doing this truck.

probably trying a few junior events which are only 2 hrs then a couple of 8 hr races.
Hottrax are starting a new series next yr.

I know what you mean, I’m terrible compared to my army days and not bike fit at all!
Will need to step up to the plate and get my arse down the gym i think 😀

Its about £750 for an 8 hr race with up to 3 team members so not bad really.

Good luck getting back onto rubber again, once its in your blood its difficult to shift. Tried climbing for a bit but that scares me more than getting my knee down at 120mph 😀

    GETTING SERIOUSLY TICKED OFF NOW!!!

Knew something was wrong yesterday, chap from Italy told me the adhesive would be impossible to remove after 24hrs, unsurprisingly the tester i put on yesterday morning peeled off with ease.

Ring APA to get a solution and i cant speak to anyone who can understand english!!!!!!!

What the hell is going on ??

Sure from memory that’s how the vinyl was as well
Didn’t feel sticky at all ’till it hit the curtain side!!

    Im confused!?

As you say, the vinyl does not feel sticky at all to touch but it also does not stick like s**t to the curtain.

Surely i should not be able to easily remove after one day? Difficult when you have no experience in a certain material as you know basis to compare to.

    Hi Ryan

I dont know if she still works at APA but I used to speak to Emma (020 8311 4400) she was very helpful.
the truck vinyl I have here is from APA, never had any problems with it not sticking.

    Hope you get it sorted

    cheers

    cheers guys!

sorry if i was ranting, i get very frustrated when you have a problem and get no where with the supplier.

am going to really prep the surface and give it a go as its only local (make the customer aware of course) and see what happens.

    speak soon 😀

just applied some to a section of banner material cleaned with isopropanol
and then heated a couple of times stuck well and started to tear when peeling off. so ithink this vinyl is ok

cleaned really well, allowed alchol to evaporate and then applied.

Seems to have gone on ok but just had to give up 2/3 the way through as force 9 gales here 😀

Typically we were ready to go as i could see the clouds on the horizon when my new guy said…’lets try to get the name done on the other side, less to do tomorrow’

Dumb ass here thought. good fella, lets crack on!!

Ending up getting blown off the trestle twice, rain, hail stones, lightning…the lot!! 😀

Less to do tomorrow though and i quite enjoyed doing my 1st curtain sider.
If you’re ever passing by the way, feel free to pop in for a cuppa!
