  • why is my plotter repeating the cutting commands?

Our Problem… can anyone help PLEEASE!!!!

Our plotter is cutting in the most inefficient way possible i.e., cuts one end to the longest end and then repeats this for every line.

How can we set the plotter to cut area by area or section by section and not repeatedly moving from one end to the other.

You can imagine how annoying this gets when you have continuous scrolling 5 metres at a time up and down!

    Hi welcome to the boards.

You can tell sign lab the order you wish to cut.
on the cut-plot screen click on the sort order on the tool box and select nearest. ( it looks like 3 red squares)

Like Peter says – the ‘cutting order’ (3 squares blue & red?). BUT by the sound of it you are cutting long strings (lines) of text. As these are single entities you would need to UNGROUP the sentences/words into individual letters and then either GROUP the individual letters into sections or select the letters one at a time with the CUTTING ORDER tool to define the cut sequence.

Or live with it, as it’s not really a fault. The plotter is only doing what it’s told.

If it’s producing tracking errors then consider reducing the travel/cut speed and the length of job where possible.

Read up on Tiling in your Signlab manual for some usefull info.

If you are cutting eg, 50 foot long by 1 inch rectangles or A paragragh with lines eg 30 foot long, you can get Signlab to TILE by any amount you want so that it cuts the job up into 5 Ten foot jobs or 10 Five foot jobs or any number of any size jobs.

I quick and easy way to Tile, is to go to Plotter Setup and manually change your Page Length to say (5 feet) or whatever is the most you want to do in 1 shot.

There is better more interactive Tiling. Info should be in your manual or help file as the UI changes from version to version.

    Hope this helps

The problem is we have upgraded from 5 – to signlab 7 and are so used to the plotter cutting the nearest first. Hence if we were cutting vinyl it would travel the shortest distant. Vesion 5 had a cutting section it would cut at a time and then move on to the nest rather than by object.

We would never upgroup any objects send it to the plotter and would cut sections quite happily.
