  • why is my infill paint not drying properly?

    Hi

As you can see from the pic I’ve sandblasted a piece of slate and tried to infill the letters with (what I have been told is the best to use) Humbrol enamel exterior paint. The problem is it has dried and instead of going really smooth and gloss like it has wrinkled and not created the smooth finish I require and have seen on other similar slate signs

Any ideas on this? Do I need to prepare the slate with some form of undercoat? Apply the paint in thinner layers??

    Cheers

    Russ

PS – I should say that although it looks like its convex its actually concave.

    Russell, undercoat, undercoat, undercoat!
Thats why its rippling like that, layer is too thick.

    Thanks Harry

Any particular type of undercoat or just a thin layer of the same?

    Thanks for your time.

Never put a gloss coat on top of gloss, will almost surely lead to crinkling, not sure what you would use with Humbrol, if it is white spirit based any good quality undercoat would do, make sure to let it dry though.
