  • why has my laptop got a pink screen?

Posted by Gareth.Lewis on August 29, 2007 at 11:00 am

Anybody had this ever? Twice recently my laptop screen (dell) has gone blank and bright pink with very few (known to me) options available other than to hold the ‘on’ button down so the computer shuts down. On powering up, all is back to normal.

Very strange, as yet I’ve not lost any unsaved ‘work in progress’ but any time now…

Any ideas would be greatly received (Ta)

I’ve had that happen with a faulty monitor cable so it may a connection problem in the laptop.

Sounds like you’ve fallen victim to a rather queer virus.
This is most likely to be the rainbow virus, known for exposing itself in pink.
You need to insert a gender changer in the rear port.

    quote Neil Davey:

While Davids answer gave me a smile, I’d agree with Neil. You have a RGB cable inside the unit, if the r/g lines are damaged or have a poor connection you’ll get a cyan tint on the screen. g/b missing will give you pink and so forth. Could be a dirty connection, but if its consistently the one colour, it is either the cable, or the chip that drives the screen may be on the way out. If it only happens when the machine gets warm its more likely electronic
