Why does my VersaCamm turn off halfway though a job?
Posted by John Dorling on December 17, 2008 at 11:00 amHi. My VP540 sometimes turns off halfway through a print job and VersaWorks says it’s ‘not connected’ When I go and turn the printer on it just says NOW PROCESSING. I have to turn it off at the back and re-start it, and re start the job. Anyone got any ideas why it does this? I updated versaworks yesterday, but it has done this before so it can’t be that.

I should give Roland a ring, they’ll probably know the answer. I’m not sure if you need to have a service agreement to get advice, worth a try though.

What type of file are you sending to versaworks?
I had the same problem when sending eps and sometimes pdfs with the VP-540.
Now I do everything as tiffs and haven’t had a problem since.

also check your pc doesnt go into screensaver/sleep mode, this has caught me out a few times and has shut down the printer (I have a cadet so its pretty much the same machine).

This can also happen if there are to many jobs in the job queue.
If the job is finished delete it. -

I have been in to see a customer today with the same printer and same problem, turned out that when he had the engineer in his pc was set with a sleep mode

yeah i was just thinking the same… can happen to some CNC’s too

Agree it could be the sleep mode on the PC, but another thing to check…
Is the USB cable you are using a proper shielded one ? Our SP300 would sometimes not be found by the PC when we switched it on – most of the time it would, but it seemed quite random.
Turns out the problem was an unshielded USB cable that was running too close to the power cable, and not getting the signal through properly.
Could it be that Versaworks is trying to send data, but not finding the printer and turning it off ?

Thanks for the replies. I have tried all of these things and as yet it hasn’t done it again. Fingers crossed!

Did you sort out your problem?? Since we have re booted the pc that runs the printer we have suffered the same problem. We have installed all updates and all sleep modes have been turned off. Will give Roland a ring tomorrow.
Anyone with any other ideas??

Just for the record. It looks very likely my problem was caused by a dodgy network cable/connection.

It looks like my router was to blame. On the advice of Royston from Perfect Colours I have installed a network switch. I’m yet to test it though.
