why does my computer say i have insufficient memory?
Posted by Lorraine Clinch on July 18, 2007 at 12:34 pmI’ve just tried exporting a vector image as a jpeg out of Signlab, but get the error message ‘insufficient memory’.
As the computer has loads of space left, and I’m a bit dim with the inner workings of a computer, can anyone tell me what I need to do please?Rod Young replied 16 years, 9 months ago 4 Members · 5 Replies -

I’m not positive but that may be linked to the ‘working’ memory as such, it does have a techy name but I have no idea what it is.
Have you tried closing down other applications running in the background ?
If you right click on the dark blue line at the bottom of the monitor and then click task manager, it will have a few tabs at the top which show you how many programs are running, how much cpu process they are taking up and the ‘physical memory’ ( thats what I was thinking of up there ) available and being used.
It may help, possibly, perhaps ? 🙂

Hi Lorraine, depending what you want the jpeg for the best bet is normally to reduce the size way way down in signlab and then export. A pain if you want dimension on it but otherwise of for viewing on the screen. Coreldraw tends to handle these things a bit better if you need it full size. You can also reduce the res, but I find physical size on the screen easier.
Hope this helps…. if it’s for a proof and you have 7 or later you can publish as pdf, this normally works fine?

Hi Saph, Gavin for your replies. Gavin, you had the answer, vehicle outline at full size, whizzed it down to Corgi size and it went immediately, so thanks!

However, exporting line art to a jpeg is like using the Transform menu >> Render to Bitmap tool. Unless you take care to scale down the art and/or reduce the image resolution (when exporting), then SignLab will merrily use the available system memory in creating the jpeg.
As an alternative, I would suggest using File menu >> Publish to PDF. You can create PDF images at high resolution, yet the file size will be remarkably compressed.
