  • Why do so many sign vans have rubbish graphics ?

Posted by Colin Bland on May 27, 2016 at 6:27 pm

I have just spent the last 2.5 hrs driving 11 miles through London and have seen numerous sign vans that have poor graphics and that includes mine !

Why is it that we can produce great graphics for others but not for ourselves.

I have seen loads which are cowboy type sign fitters – the ones with pictures of everything on the side of the van including kitchen ventilation systems because they do that as well 😀

I have seen some where the sign company obviously has their 12 year old kid as chief designer – inspires confidence in clients I should think

And i have seen some where the design is way too clever for its own good and just doesnt work.

Mine well its only got the back doors signwritten because we simply havent had time to complete the rest and now were changing our identity again -thats my excuse

    Nearly home Colin

When customers asked me why a sign maker had no signs on their van i would tell them see the new sign rather than look at our van the amount of customers who use to say i can understand that was unbelievable, problem was I ended up believing it myself and never did write the van

Our van simply says our company name, as that contains the words sign & print I find it self explanatory, along with web adrdress & phone number to get in touch

Yes we have and embossed partial wrap, but thats only noticable when its clean and parked up.

One customer said I should have a list of everything we do on the van, they’ve since gone out of business, and considering they were designers/printers you think they’d know better.

Ive got one written and two unwritten…if anyone asks I tell them the truth…
Im like a plumber with a dripping tap at home…
we are so busy…all our customers work is more important than ours and
all our time is dedicated to our customers.

Simple answer Its just plain stupid having rubbish graphics and a sign of a rubbish sign writer

mine is much the same, stripped both sides (one was done for me thanks to an idiots insurance company) and intended to polish it all back up before signwriting it again, that was nearly two years ago! Only back doors, bonnet and some contact info on front doors still remains, I think it looks awful and dointend to wrap it as a bit of a showpiece but…

Less is more in my opinion, which is why I have nothing
    On my van.
I agree with the various comments though – bad graphics on a sign van
Is a really great way to win a customer confidence – NOT !!

Mine is kept clean tidy and simple

because their Graphic Designer is actually their receptionist who has dabbled with adobe for 1-3 months.
