why do i keep getting a file corrupt message?
Posted by Stephen Ingham on November 13, 2008 at 11:50 amHi all, just a quick one that is starting to really get on my goat now….
when a customer sends me artwork from their printers etc i try and open it in coreldraw and i keep getting a message saying its corrupt, yet i can open it file in illustrator.
if i try to save it from illustrator as either eps or ai i still get corrupt messages when trying to open them in coreldraw
how can i resolve this…please?
any help or advice is appreciated.
cheers

Try saving it in Illy as a legacy format, might work

When you go to save as and click on save you will then get another window which will have a drop down menu to save as previous versions of Illy. Versions before cs are referred to as legacy format.

I think most printers or designers use mac’s and when they convert to a different file system there’s problems. I’ve had trouble with fonts not to paths, hidden layers or characters etc etc from customers files.
As Nick said the newest versions of Coreldraw are better at opening files from other software.

It might be a font problem. Although it does open in Illustrator. Does Illy give any kind of error or missing font message when it opens? Was the original file created in Corel?

they sent me a file in .eps format, when i open it in coreldraw it opens but only a blank page….

Draw V11 is fairly old now and if the originator is using a new version of CS then the file won’t be compatible with Draw V11, no surprises really. X4 obviously supports newer versions but there is still an issue if the file is compressed (Adobe have a propriety method of compression apparently) so ensure your originator sends uncompressed files or lower version files. Later versions of AI are essentially based on pdf and I have known changing the file extension to pdf and importing that to work.
My normal workflow with problem AI or pdf files is to open in full Acrobat (V5) save as eps and then import that into Draw using ps filter and text to curves – very seldom fails.
