  • why do i get ghosting on vinyl after applying onto glass

    Hi All

My local Nissan garage have asked me a question.

    Q. After having a printed clear vinyl? sign on a windscreen, when it rains the outline is still there. They have steamed cleaned the window a couple of times and have used other cleaning products on it but they can’t remove the outline. Being a garage, the length of time that the sign was on the screen was not long.

    Any ideas.

    Regards
    Lee

ahhh i think the answer if i am right here was posted about 2 years ago on this site by Phill fenton.. well I’m sure it was phill that started the thread.. not sure who gave him the right reply…

    anyway..

i think the answer for them is… they are knackered! live with it or you have to change the windscreen.
from memory (don’t quote me) :lol1: from memory the graphics are on the windscreen for several weeks south facing. sunlight bounces off the windscreen and over the period of time manages to absorb some of the tint/UV filter from the windscreen. were each letter “was” it sheltered the screens tint from the UV rays. when the letters are removed, all looks fine.. but the rain water etc shows up the protected area as slightly darker than the rest of the windscreen creating a ghosting effect.
no matter what you do, its not on the surface, its through the glass.

hope that makes sense, and i hope i have answered it correctly.. ide advise doing a search for it. using phills on site name as poster will reduce the amount of results so should make it easier to find.

    Hi Robert

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for that.
