  • why do i get error message when closing down window?

Posted by Lorraine Clinch on January 27, 2007 at 12:20 pm

Since last night, every time I close a Signlab window I get the following message:

    Cut tmpl.

GetRows binding error. Probably caused by datatype mismatch.

This the takes me to a box with Signlab files, trying to open a file called cut tmpl.

This won’t open if I try, takes me back to the original message.

It doesn’t SEEM to be messing up my computer, and the SL file I’m working on does close down when I press cancel, just wondered what I’ve done and what I need to correct? Also worried that I may come back on Monday to find the lot wiped. 😮

    Easy fix, don’t close Signlab :lol1: 😳

    I’ll get me coat….

Sounds like you have a corrupt file to me, but I don’t use Signlab. I’d backup your data files before you do anything else. The defrag your drive. If its a crosslinked file, it may be all that it needs to fix it.

You could always just re-install Signlab as it may just be a corrupt DLL, only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish including your fonts database / drivers.

    Lorraine,
Have you looked on the Cadlink website? There’s a support tab on the home page which might be of help (www.cadlink.com)

Well, I’ve found the problem that this message causes-I can’t cut anything and Signlab crashes!

I’ve backed up SL files, but will lose all my extra fonts on re-install. Does anyone have any advice on how I can save all these to the external hard drive?

Been trying most of the day, but my computer knowledge doesn’t stretch that far! 😳

Cheers everyone, hope you can help.

Lorraine, just copy your additional fonts, then reinstall, shouldnt be a problem…

Are you just reinstalling SL or are you doing windows? are they window fonts or just SL fonts?

    Hi Lorraine,

For whatever reason, your old MDB appears to be corrupt. I’ve posted replacement MDB file for you here:

    https://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.p … 390#190390

Let me know if you’re still struggling.

    Regards,

    Rod

I know I am being really thick here, butcould someone tell me HOW I back up fonts in Signlab? I don’t mean the ones which come with SL, but the ones I have added, such as TTF’s? I can’t see the file in ‘my computer’.

    Cheers

assuming windows is on your c: drive, you should find your fonts here C:\WINDOWS\Fonts. Copy that to a dvd should do it

Lorraine you should be able to track them down in the control panel.

when you install signlab it goes and finds any fonts already on your system, so as long as they are in a folder on the c drive it will find them.

    Thanks Shane, done it!

Peter, whenever I have re-installed SL it has only ever picked up the SL fonts, I always have huge issues with opening files after installation, and having to re-install TTf’s used in that file. Must be just me 😥 As I said before, I’m useless with computers!

Rod, you are a star! Thank you, used this to replace the old file, re-booted, set up the cutting port again, and wahay, I’m up and running again!

    I didn’t even need to re-install SL!

I’ll post a piccie of my fully dressed and finished van in a bit!

Thanks to you all for your help.

Lorraine! You are so kind for saying as such! I’m glad that you were descriptive about what you were experiencing, and I’m similarly pleased that everyone here was keen to identify the cause.

With respect to the MDB file, there is no good reason for why is became corrupt. I’d recommend virus scans and new sets of backups, and also consider age of the hard drive.

That is sound advice. The first thing I did was check the Knowledge Base for previous resolutions. In this particular case, there had been no previous record. However, I was able to glean insight from the Tech Support team about what would cause the symptoms that Lorraine had described.

I did look at the Cadlink site, as Steve suggested, but like Rod, couldn’t find anything relevant.
I installed new anti-virus software just a few days ago (paid for!), don’t know if this caused a conflict. I shall run a new back-up of SL tonight.

    Thanks again

the pc suddenly getting switched off (powercut?) whilst a program is open is a common cause for database (mdb) corruption.

with later o/s’ (win2000/win xp) pressing the power button on the pc once, the pc should begin closing any open applications prior to the pc switching off, whereas holding the power button in for 5 seconds will just switch the pc off with the applications still open.
