why do i get a jaggy cut in corel please?

i too have the same problem big g, but seen i am new to corel, i don’t have the foggiest!! 🙄

mind you i’m cutting some stuff from a pc60, and found it cut like a tank!! 🙄

Hi Nik & Big G,

We have never come across this but i will give you a run down of what we do when cutting direct out of corel using a standard driver.

1. write your text/ create circle
2. right click on the item, convert to curves.
3. right click, break apart.
(this converts everything to basic shapes)
4. go to outline tool and reduce the outline to the minimum (0.004mm)
5. change the outline to your cut line colour (we use magenta)
6. print

Let me know if this works, I doubt it is a problem with both of your machines, driver or the program. It just sounds like a simple set up isssue.

Carrie & Stephen: That is exactly what I do, apart from the break apart bit. I’ll try that tomorrow just because sometimes it’s the daft things like that that can create problems. Other than that, it could be a simple plotter setting; there are about 8 million menus on the Graphtec and it’ll take me a while to learn what they all do.

Big G, I would think it would be a set up issue rather than the machine as nik nax is having the same problem and she is using a pc60.

When you get in tomorrow try it out, if it still does it and it’s not the file’s fault try re-installing the driver. This would set everything back to the default settings which my resolve the issue.

if cutting with coreldraw on a hairline outline you can use any cutline colour you want but magenta is the norm, you must make sure the RGB values of the colour selected are the same RGB values as the cart.
You’ll also have to re-assign each colour cart (and spots) to the pallette with RGB values, I assume theyre same as PC600 I’ve a copy if you need it emailing.

Big g, no idea mate, hate corel, I used signtools with it even then it was utterly useless 😉

I use a Roland 1100 plotter and i know there is an issue with the Windows driver. This is to do with restrictions in Windows and not the driver per se.
The problem is the amount of detail sent to the plotter when the cutting area is set to anything larger than 4ft.

If you have your print area set quite large try setting it smaller and see what happens.

Another way to see what’s happening is to set a cutting area of say 6ft in the driver. (Note this is not the page size in Corel but the print area set in the Advanced Options of the printer driver) Draw a circle and instead of sending it to the plotter print it to file. You can then open that file in notepad and see the amount of data that would have been sent.
Do the same again but with a 3ft cut area and see the difference between this file and the previous.
