  • why did the yellow cartridge run out without telling me?

Posted by David McPhillips on April 6, 2006 at 3:23 pm

Well 1st of all I was half way through printing a banner this morning when my yellow cartridge ran out without warning after replacing this cartridge and re-starting the job, now the yellow wont come through…I have syringed the ink line but now yellow is through and magenta is not appearing on print.

Any ideas would be appreciated as I have customers waiting on jobs and suppliers technical support is pathetic I’ve been waiting on them ringing me for 3 hours now. (:)

    Thanks in advance

Magenta and yellow both feed into the same print head – maybe the magenta feed has been contaminated with yellow (I believe this can happen if pulling ink through a head with a syringe)? Try a print test to see if magenta is printing at all or is it perhaps printing with yellow ink. If yellow I would guess that the magenta feed line has some yellow ink in it which should clear with a few head cleans.

Thanks for reply Phil I have tried everything you suggested, What I am now getting on the test print is mag – yellow and black all printing fine but no magenta ink coming through, there seems to be some problem between the heads and the pump suction…I’m lost to be honest 🙄

I’m going to try a powerful clean to see if that will force it through although i have done numerous cleans already without any joy.

Ill let you know how i get on in the mean time any further suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hello Dave,

Had a similar problem (yellow/ magenta) with my Cadet and was advised to use the syringe method.
Unfortunately it didn’t work this time although it did the week before when the cyan / black was affected after the cyan ran out (the 440ml cartridges don’t trigger an alert when they run out).
Apparently there had been a problem with the motherboard (the machine is only three months old).
The tech came and wired a bypass to a section of the motherboard circuit that fixed the problem and we were away laughing again.
Let me know how you got on Dave.

Cheers from the Sunshine Coast Australia

    Dave,

It sounds like the pump may have gone – you might just have sucked enough ink through on the yellow for it to look like it has been fixed.

If you can’t get any response quickly it might just be worth asking for a pump to be over-nighted to you – they are very easy to change.

    hope you get sorted soon
