  • why cant my version of corel X3 work?

Posted by Peter Munday on May 8, 2007 at 4:17 pm

I registered my version of Corel X3 on Friday ( Student & Teacher version) and low and behold today it doesn’t work. I can’t open it ,I cant delete it in fact I can’t do anything with it. Corel’s website says that because its a student version I’m not entitled to e-mail help. (bully)

Can you describe what is happening when you try to launch Corel along with any error messages you get.
You may not entitled to email help with a Student version but you could go to the Corel News Group and post your question there, you will propably get an answer there.

Alan message as follows "This patch could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package". Up until I registered it I have been using it for months without a problem.

Must admit I’ve never seen that message before, are you trying to launch Draw from a shortcut on the desktop or from the programme list?
The term ‘patch’ seems to point to a service patch rather than the application, strange. Have you tried launching Draw with F8 pressed and accepting factory default workspace, this clears alot of problems but I am guessing here. Can you confirm yout OS please

I had to clear out the local application settings the other day as the F8 route didn’t work and it was corrupt..

Done a full system restore ( took most of last night ) installed all the patches, and that seems to have done the trick. Don’t want to do that again. 😥

Very odd, glad you’re sorted though.

I’ve had this problem with another program.

I found the executable file in the program folder and double clicking that, if the program opens it’s the shortcut that’s faulty.

The fix is to just right click/hold on this exe file and copy shortcut to where you want it.

can i just ask what is the difference between the student/teacher version and the normal version apart from the £200 saving!

do they both do exactly the same job?

    Cheers

Looked at Amazon, if there is no difference i might as well get the student version at £63.00.

Anybody see a reason y not?

This argument has been muted before,

I cant see any reason why you shouldn’t buy the student version,

If corel were bothered, they would only sell to verified students, they dont ask for confirmation of any form, even when the software is installed.

so its their problem, not yours, we are all still learning, arnt we?
