my brain is not functioning today… tranparency 101

I have a logo, send to me from another sign company…its a lovely EPS, it has lot of white around, and for some reason, no matter what I do I can’t make it go away and turn it into transparent, so i can contour cut it in Flexisign ?

What am I doing wrong….I can do it in Photoshop…but getting it back into flexisign or AI is still have the white around it.

I am not having a very good week….! please help me!

    Thanks

    Hi
what version of Flexi are you using, Flexi only supports transparent background from 7.6 upwards. In 7.6 go to Bitmap main menu then half way down there is a Transparent Magic wand tool.

    Hi Again Kev,

I am not sure if it is me or not, but….

….I am working on my friends machine which has flexi 8 installed, some cheap and nasty Core2Duo 1 or 2gb of ram… now I am working on a 32mb AI file, which I am importing into flexi – I have in AI made a path around the graphics that I wish to run around, as I need to print this on clear in reverse and place on acrylic with frosted vinyl around, but I need to cut out a white background so the colors will stand out more.

Now, I have applied the transparency wand and I have walking ants around, but NO action in Flexi just sitting there showing 75%, but it hasn’t crashed and Task Manager shows a lot of activity, and it has been almost 15-25min since I ran the task.

    ?? i need help! ??

    thanks for taking your time

    Hi
if you have an AI path use that to cut you white vinyl, or use the normal wand, invert the selection & then convert marquee to vector that will give you your white cutable shape. If you duplicate the shape & align over your image you can then mask the image so only the image shows. Hope this helps &* i’ve understood correctly what you are trying to do

    thanks Kev,

got it! need a brain upgrade! one that does not get tired so quick

    🙂

my EPS file had come from an advertising agency which looked like it had been through Dreamweaver’s EPS conversion or something like that as it was tiled, not a complete vector drawing…and when I look at it, it was probably never made in a vector program….. just odd the guy said I could use the file he had made to make a 1500×400 cutout of it.

anyway, problem solved, I grabbed the ol’pen tool! man, thinking that the machines will do it all for ya these days! what I fool I am!

Sometimes you need to unmask the image when it has a big white background. I’ve found that a lot with importing PDFs.
