  • why are the vertical cuts in text AI files not working?

Posted by Terry Bull on November 10, 2008 at 2:49 pm

I have currently got problems with my signlab crashing and currently cant use it so am having to try and make do with corel 12

trouble i am finding is that if i design text etc and save or export it as an ai file for cutting in my easy sign driven plotter it opens with loads of verticle cutting lines
    any advise would be welcome

    if you go to

VIEW then WIREFRAME and highlight all the text then go into ARRANGE and then WELD It it should be a solid file to cut?

another option is to export as a WMF (windows meta file) maybe?

not sure if this will help but worht a dabble.

    cheers

    Thanks for your reply Graeme
the text is fine in corel when i save it
the lines appear only when i open in easysign for cutting

As the easysign is only a basic program to run the plotter i cannot edit it in that

is the security key or dongle in place ok? on instances when this is not present it creates cut lines? just a thought?

had a similiar problem from corel to magicut!

you have too weld the letters together

    this should solve it

Happens to me sometimes when I export from corel to signlab to cut (exported in WMF).

I export as curves so text is converted to curves.

The vertical lines appear when there are too many nodes in one curve, I solve it by breaking the text apart and then exporting, this results in lots of sections with fewer nodes in each which signlab can handle

    Graeme

Everything is in order so this may have just developed since i had problems with a virus a few days ago
To cure it ‘had Norton’s installed and a full ‘tune up’ (by them )since then
I’m having problems with opening signlab

got to reload it but currently cant find my sons disks etc and sadly he’s no longer with us

i see theres good news regarding nortons on another thread
why is it you read this stuff APTERWARDS….!

Well i managed to get the file to open correctly for cutting and the way i did it was to reimport in corel (it still showed the lines when opened )
weld…. that lost the lines then… break curves and export as an ai again as curves
If you export without breaking the curves your cuts remain

    worked for me

    Thanks to all that advised

Glad to be of assistance whenever I can Terry, like so many others on here.

I don’t know if it’s the export filters that don’t like too many nodes and so split it into vertical panels or if it’s the import commands in the sign cutting software in any case the threshold seems to be around any single curve of about 1000 nodes or more gets split

Vertical lines when exporting from corel as Illustrator files. On export ensure the option ‘simulate complex filled shapes is OFF ( I turn off outline effects too).
