    Hi Chris

I use Convex a fair bit for moto-x bikes, and am happy with the results… I use both the Convex 200micron and 300micron laminates depending on the application – 200 if I want to contour cut intricate shapes. It is fairly expensive here, but worth it for ‘high value’ moto-x bike kits.

If I remember correctly I have seen Danger stuff an it was 3M backing so I guess it is made up to their spec which you can do for a couple of rolls etc etc. A friend of mine’s son used to spanner for the Honda race team graphics trashed every race he said they were forever putting them on.
Tried Convex and it didn’t last/didn’t stick and the price is ridiculous over here. None of them last not even the factory kits don’t.
Still waiting for someone to prove me wrong.

    Chris,
Just as an alternative, I’ve been printing and laminating a Hexis VCR series material, it’s available in 2 thicknesses 70 and 100 micron and prints quite well on a VersaCamm.
Hexis say the material is intended for low energy surfaces, polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonate and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) phew try spelling those without thinking!

My work is applied to polyprop’ bodywork, by my customer, and I’ve never had any feedback, good or bad.

    thanks guys so far.

well i never bothered with MX graphics before cos people would turn there nose up at the price, but did some stuff with the allprint LG vinyl for a local mx tuning firm and he was very enthusiastic about it. unfortunately the lg vinyl is a pain to use the backing paper don’t like heat from printing or humidity and makes cutting difficult.
got some hexis vinyl and it just don’t seam sticky enough but a set out on trial, first corner the lad fell off and bust his arm. so nothing to report other than it fitted well.
on the LG vinyl did 3 sets for a new customer only to find they have now started to delaminate and pull. i fitted one set, and have now decided that the LG must only be fitted to dead flat surfaces.

so it looks like i will have to try the convex any more comments on it.

    thanks

    Hi

These guys are based near me and they have a cheaper product pitched against Convex. Not tried it myself but I think they do a lot for the manufacturers race teams and sell loads of it in the states. Might be worth trying it. MX graphics has always seemed a bit of a mine field to me so I’ve always steered clear of it.

thank you i will talk to them on monday.

these customers know what they cost and are prepared to pay for there designs so in this case worth trying. they love what we have done and are very understanding just the material letting us down at the mo.

    Hi Chris

I’ve had some issues with the LG Ultratack too. I dont think it’s lifted yet and it did fit quite well, but the overlam doesn’t stay put. I too would be interested in hearing some feedbackj on convex. Also, how do you cut yours? My Versacamm really struggled with the thinner of the two heavy duty laminates from APS.

I’ve used the Hexis stuff on my Enduro bike, and while it’s very sticky it’s not as good as the Convex vinyl or the original KTM ones.

I’ve also used it for wheelie bin stickers and it seems fine for that.

found that the LG stuff handles better if no heat used during printing, laminate cold or by hand, then cut and finally through the laminator at 40 deg. and it still de laminated except on dead flat surfaces.

yes i think that the versacamms would struggle alot due to only 2 pinch rollers

my soljet also finds the 250 mic laminate hard work but the graphtec not a problem. but have worked away around all the silly graphtec alignment problems, with out using cutting master.

hopefully when i get it all reliable cutting it could be first trip round cuts normal sec time round does a perf cut, to save having to cut the backing paper later.

I’ve used the Hexis material on my own bike and found it very easy to apply and stands up to a fair amount of abuse.
