Right guys we are currently thinking of investing in a second machine (we currently have a VS640 2 x CMYK) so the same machine but a little smaller VS540 for White and Metallic prints.

Ideally we need this printer as a backup for some of the busy times and trade work we do, but we also get a few inquiries a week for white clear stickers & could sell a few metallic jobs which we would like to print.
    Here are my questions…

    (1) How much ink (white & metallic) does it go through if not used at all (compared to my other dual CMYK printer)

    (2) How slow is it per meter (if I took my current VS640 at high quality and 1/4 the speed on sticker material is this around the same speed as printing white instead).

    Hi Shaun

i have a VS640 with CMYKLcLm i saw the demo of the metallic and white
was very impressed with the image but it felt like i was stood about for an hour waiting
    for a 5cm square image to print….

i think if you really wanted a metallic printer i personally would go for
the XC540, use to have one at the last place i worked and was a darn sight faster but we still never used it unless the customer was willing to pay a LOT more for the job

Thanks for your reply, the thing is that we only need this printer for when we are busy so it would be a backup really.

I just thought with the metallic + white we could add something to the table as we sell a few window stickers.

I am only really worried about the lack of use (maybe 1 job a week) on the
metallic + white is there a lot of waist.

the VS series has ink recirculation to lower ink waste and stop the ink from drying up, i don’t think the XC540MT has this

The print speed of the VS white/metallic is laboriously slow (sorry Roland).. So much so in fact that I converted mine to dual cmyk!

    Good points:
    The results were excellent
    unique finishes available
white reversed print for window graphics (awesome)
Automatic ink circulation and standby head clean guarantee good nozzles

    Bad points:
    veeeery slooooow!
    Veeery expensive!
Most of the results can be achieved with conventional vinyl.
Automatic ink circulation and standby head clean will use ink!

    Hope this helps?
