    Hi All

I have just done a shop sign for a local business and he has had a couple of comments on spelling ?

It’s called Specialty Sausages or should it be Speciality Sausages?
This forum says the first one 🙂

We did a mock up photo and he proofed it all but where do I stand if its wrong?

    TIA
    Alan

Is his ‘speciality’ in sausages or does he make ‘specialty’ sausages?

    quote Harry Cleary:

Is his ‘speciality’ in sausages or does he make ‘specialty’ sausages?

that’s exactly what I said 🙂 hence shop being called specialty sausages, as that’s what he sells.

I think you’ve been caught by the American spelling. It should be speciality.
‘specialty’ is an American/Canadian spelling, which is why the spell checker on this forum says it’s correct, because I suspect that is also American.
Try typing colour, harbour grey etc etc

😀 😀 😀 nothing is Concise about Wexford

Ok, I’ll stop digging…..they have a point, its not in the OED, only as a legal term. 😳 😳

Word’s Spellchecker (UK) sees nothing wrong with it!

Alan, if the customer approved a visual of the job before it was done then I would say that if it were wrong then it would be the customers own fault. I am guessing that he never noticed it on the proof that he saw. Is this a print or is it done in cut vinyl? If it is cut vinyl it wouldn’t take much to change so I would do it just for the PR but if printed then its a different matter.

I’d spell it Specialty (special-ty) myself, unless of course it’s his speciality (speci-ality) 😕

Check the spelling and meaning here and make sure you have the UK English version selected not the U.S.
