Posted by spirit on September 27, 2005 at 12:28 pm

    hi there everyone

i am looking into buying new vinyl software.

i have not tried vinyl master pro or signlab so i have no idea what these are like.

and of course i would like the best program for the least money. (who wouldn’t)

if anyone can help/recommend i would be grateful

    H

    I`ve got both.

    vmp £500

    signlab £1000+

    signlab much easier to learn.

    but it depends upon budget

Becky, when you say its easier to learn what do you mean by that? Do you mean that its easier to do the same job in signlab because there are lass operations?
The reason I ask is because I use inspire (now flexi) and I found it really easy to learn and more importantly to remember.
Having worked my way through the tutorials for inspire once I found i hardly ever had to look again to refresh my memory on how to do something.
I also use illustrator, although not anywhere near as much. Having worked my way through the tutorials for that I find myself constantly going back to them when I am trying to do certain things.
I think the main reason is not because inspire is a better program but because it was written specifically for sign work and illustrator wasn’t.

Spirit do a google search for VMP and signlab and you will find you can download a 30 day demo, have a play with them and see what you think, i prefer VMP to signlab buts thats me. 😉

i found the welding module in vmp very confusing, in sign lab you have 4/5 options, just press each one till you get the right result.

also the node editing is simplier.

i could do the same job much quicker in signlab, but i had been using SL since i first started, so perhaps a little bias.

its just my opion, each to their own, and all that.

alan, did you get the vmp cd?

I’m with Becky on this. I have used both and Signlab has simpler easier to understand functions. The learning curve on signlab is steep, meaning that you will be doing quite advanced stuff on signlab well before anything else. However software is a personal choice! as has been said download the free trials of both and give them a go.

yes Becky i got the disc thankyou, i did reply to a post about recieving it you may not of seen it but thx alot, btw i find the weld in VMP very straight forward and easy but bear in mind i havent used software like this b4 but in my opinion i find VMP alot easier than flexi/signlab. 😛

Signlab baised I would say but basically print your text at the right size check kerning and cut straight forward as that in signlab and with power weed you get a little box around and cut down the middle for easier weeding.

    goop.

    i use VMP software..
I would say for the price it’s very good..More advanced than an entry level software..many great features..I do have some issues with it..which i wonder whether they would be apparent in sign lab..but haven’t yet used signlab..so unable to comment..

overall good software for the money..
