I have a job to do banding, chevrons and signwriting on pan european st1300 motorbike. He wanted to use the same stuff as on police cars, but in white/silver and blue. but when he found out its around the £70 a metre mark, he was slightly put off. We have opted to use a range from hexis, which is reflective and is exactly the same as numberplate relflective. I was going to apply clear vinyl to surface of bike before i usedd the police car type vinyl. But now we are not using that, just wondering if there is any point in doing that now as I would prefer to just go straight on to the bike. What do you think , is it likely to damage the paintwork in anyway, or leave a lot of sticky mess.

    Matt
I would use clear (or same colour as reflective)first, with a 1mm bleed, reason being it will make the reflective easy to remove if need be, I give the client the option if it is a large area I am doing, explaining that the extra initial cost will = a saving in labour when/if it is removed but for a small area, I would do it anyway,

    HI Matt,

fwiw, I agree with Peter. always give the customer the choice, it might cost them more initially, but will save hours of grief when it’s time to remove,

worth pointing out tot them that removal also occurs when repairs are required, so they still need to consider it, even if they don’t plan to keep it long!

i do quite a few trucks for a local firm, they buy in trucks and re-brand them, when they take the reflective off, it’s not uncommon to see chunks of paint stuck to it! obviously you and would take more care, but it can happen! they never have the underlay vinyl though!
