• Which Plotter?

Posted by Paul Seamer on March 31, 2009 at 9:06 am

Looking to get a 610 plotter in the next 2 days. So far i’ve looked at the roland cx24, summa, mimaki & a Razr (Cheaper Option). can you guys guide me a bit on pro & cons of each as I can hardly tell the difference.

Don’t know about the Razr (I thought that was a Motorola phone) but from the rest there isn’t much to choose.

My preference would be the Mimaki, but that has little to do with the cutter, more the software that drives it.

They will all do a good job for you.

Lets stick a graphtec in there to help you decide. 😕

    quick reply, heading out…

i would have to say graphtec. had various over the years but recently went for two new 54inch wide ones from graphtec complete with media bags/catchers. you are also a uksg member so discount available on your purchase, see UKSG section on that please.
i think there is also some cutters available in the discount shop area of this site.

graphtec – I bought one years ago and never really had a problem with it

switch it on and it’s ready to go every time

If I need to buy another then it would be a graphtec 100%

Didn’t realise that UKSG got deals on Graphtec. That may have just made my mind up. Might sounds stupid but do you just design in Corel then export as normal to the graphtec software?

    Hi,

We purchased a Graphtec FC7000 CE machine about a year ago and havent looked back since. It has a cool little plugin that works directly from adobe illustrator, we simply draw the artwork and press cut directly from illustrator….

If your looking for a good deal try Phil or Richard at Signmaster system and say the guys at canvas101 recommended you, they always have deals on and with the sign digital show coming up might even be worth a visiting them on the stand. I would say go on the last day towards the end of the day when suppliers really need to make sales…..

We bought a Roland XC540 from the show last year and managed to save around 4k on the machine…..Blinding deal…

Oh one other thing check out the deals section as they always have reduced graphtecs for sale.

    Hope this helps

Paul – we design almost everything in Corel and send to the Graphtec using the Cutting Master plug in. From previous posts some time back I know there are members who like and dislike Cutting Master but for me I find it a breeze. Allows me to do things like flip/reverse image, cut by colour, locate the artwork precisely so I can maximise cutting area on the vinyl etc.

Just watch which version of Corel you buy. OEM (and I think academic possibly) doesn’t have VBS support so won’t run the plug in.
