  • Which machine for CNC contour cutting of mounted prints

    Good evening,

Am looking into (early stages anyway!) of the possibility of automating all our trimming work, for example cutting down of mounted prints that sort of thing.

I’ve seen a couple of machines – zund and kongsberg but these seem like they might be overkill. I’ve seen various sign companies offering cardboard cutouts of people which I’m guessing arent cut by hand so how are they doing them? We’d want to be able to cut dibond, pvc foam, acrylic – and flexible stuff like vehicle magnetic.

    Any info greatly received

I think mimaki are doing a machine. But I sub contract to a nation wide company that have the zund and they are a very good machine they run every day, require a person to operate them not the sort of thing any one can use. They are not cheap but can be paid for in a short time if you have the work load for it. Have to be care full not to cut through the bed.

The PN model starts at £85k+ thats the "entry level", the G3 I believe is £115k 😮

Not cheap but worth the money, the machines I know of in use work 6 days a week and 5 nights every week of the year, I think they are about 5 years old now. They use them to cut vinyl alot. big hoarding-window jobs. as well as die-cut and router out letters.

I have seen computerised mount / mat cutters from Wizard, about £10,000 I think…

If the Zund prices that you are quoting are for the entry level machines, you might want to look at the Aristo machines, I think they start a bit cheaper than that and do everything that the Zund can do for you.
