Which layout do you guys think i should use?
Posted by Rod Gray on August 21, 2003 at 2:56 pmHi guys,
I`ve been staring at these all afternoon and can`t choose which one use based mainly on the yellow and beige colours used.
Customer isn`t too fussy and has more or less left it up to me. (Makes a change eh?).
Which one do you guys think i should use?
As you can see, i don`t know if the yellow makes it look too "modern" and takes the old feel away.
Thanks in advance.
p.s. No prizes for guessing who`s influence is apparent on these signs 🙂

Top right does it for me. 😀 Nice one (as are the others – but this one is the best)

Yeah!
Top right for me
The cream, towards beige, blends well with the restThe script in the first one has lost a little definition
Yellow’s fine but the cream more subtle

I agree with Lorraine – top right but with cream infills all rounf on the title…

Top right…
But whould it look better if you “filled” the W and S like in top left?

Thanks guys,
I also preferred the top right as i felt the yellow detracted from the “older” feel.
i`m curious of one other thing though, did the weaved background pattern seem apparent to you guys when looking at the sign?. Or did anyone actually notice it?…..and if i hadn`t just mentioned it, do you think you`d have noticed?.
/edit oh and i almost forgot, does anyone think i`ll get away with NOT having an apostrophe beteen r and s on Weaver’s?
Thanks again

Can I be honest Rod and say – I thought they represented flagstones or tiles…I know, I know, the title is ‘Weavers’ but I’m gettin’ old!…?
Maybe it’s because so much is obscured or maybe you need to use two subtly different shades to give an over-under feel to it?
If you need any help – shout!

Thanks for the feedback Mike, its like gold-dust.
Looking at the jpg and looking at the cdl file i can see a huge difference which appears to be caused by screen calibration etc. I don`t really think the jpg does the signs any justice.
On the cdl cut file, the colours are much clearer and more vibrant and perhaps show the weave pattern a little clearer. My frustration is that the machine and software i designed this on is not my own and althought the owner is a friend, i hate to think i`m imposing on anyone.
I`m gonna need to save hard for Signlab so i can spend as much time as i like to tweak these little things. 😀
I`ll post up a photo once the sign is complete.
Thanks again for the feedback mate.

Yep, Mike said the same as I felt, I thought the background was tiles… I also go with top right, …. nice one,

I’d put the apostrosphe there ONLY if the customer insisted
otherwise it would upset the balance.Text in signs don’t have to follow convention
We see in your own layout a Capital W and then at the end what appears to be a capital S. Yet it appears aesthetically pleasing
Another example: In a sentence we may initial cap every word.

quote Gray:Rod, you’ll hate me for saying so,
Exactly the opposite mate. Constructive criticism is like gold dust. Without sounding melodramatic, i crave it. It wakens me to things i don`t see.
I was unable to make the sign today due to some delivery hitches with Europoint but they colours of vinyl i`m using are very subtley different and in reality there isn`t quite the same dramatic change in colour tone and it looks quite effective.
I`ll post the picture when i get it finished.
Cheers
Rod
