Hi Dave, it all depends on how much your wanting to get into it. If your
willing to read up and play then version 5.5/6.0 will do most of what you’ll need.

Upgrades since then have just really automated the effects you can achieve and
    bloated the software.

If you head for the Barras in Glasgow you’llbe suprised at what you can pick up for a tenner.

    Cheers Pete

Cs is the best (or the version before that ver 7)both supports vector and raster (TTF text , die lines etc). Cs has some great features , especially if you have a digital camera. Cs integrates with illustrator well. This is very good if you do print and cut. Also has very good catloging , search , browsing etc. CS requires some serious comuting power , ram , hd space and graphics card if you want to run it at all at a useable rate. Even my 2.4 ghz P4 cpu , 1 gig ram . 120 mb hd and ge force card is only sort of adequate. Ps & illustrator CS eclipse Photopaint and coreldraw12 imho.

For some strange reasons i couldnt print picture larger then 2m with ps6. I guess that was my fault, however when i upgraged to cs the problem gone.
