• Which cutter??

Posted by Alexis Davis on May 19, 2008 at 10:08 pm

    Hi everyone
Against everyones recommendation, I went and brought a cheap chinese cutter things hadn’t been going too bad. No straight lines, the machine refusing to cut the next job without restarting my whole system, stopping halfway through jobs randomly, wasting untold amounts of vinyl, letters not closing, ports actually coming out of the machine (it ended up being taped to the side with the lead taped with it), fuses falling out the side of the machine blah blah blah. You get the picture.

Well the other day it finally had its last straw and decided to give up, The head doesn’t rise off the vinyl, and now it only goes halfway up the width before getting stuck and proceeding to shake my house down and I now have a new disco light in the shape of an lcd.

Well now after 4 months I’m back on the market for a new machine, this time I’m going to listen. 😳 I have stumped up enough cash to fund a decent 48" cutter. I’m leaning towards a graphtec CE5000-120 as I use an older version everyday IIRC its a FC130 which IMO is fantastic as it does everything you could ever want, but was curious if anyone knew of more bang for buck or even maybe a decent contact?

Many Thanks for all your help before guys even though I naively ignored it , I hope I can be forgiven.

And I DON’T recommend a chinese cutter to anyone they are a health hazard!!

    Rant over 😛

Alexis at least you have learned that life’s mistakes should always be in somebody Else’s life.
Stick with the name brands and buy the best that you can budget for. All the top brands have their followers We have a Summa and find it fantastic. But I think all the name brands are good otherwise they wouldn’t have a good name. Cheers Mike

Ive been running a 48inch wide Roland and a 54" wide graphtec for years now. both excellent machines…
i decided we should buy new cutters and sell off the old just a week or so ago… i called around and managed to get a very good deal on 2 new Roland machines but in the end Graphtec came through with a brilliant deal, so we went with graphtec. have to say we are very pleased on the new machines. both 54inch wide and come with all the toys. being a UKSG member myself really paid off in this instance. (and that’s not a sales pitch, ) 😕 :lol1:

you wont go wrong with a Roland, Summa or Graphtec… but for me Graphtec
    really done the business… 😀

Im really needing to sign up on here just don’t have 70 bangers at the mo. So maybe I try giving graphtec a call on monday and see what they come up with instead of going through a third party. mod-edit

Oh wonder what I said. Sorry about that!

So I’m gonna order on thursday, what software are you using? I’m on the dreaded vista so was guessing I’ve gotta go signlab 8. Im familiar with signlab 7 and have been using winpc at home which is enough to cause premature greyness. Whats everyones thoughts on 8, as the boss at my daytime job was curious too when I brought it up??

I hope it’s ok to bump this thread and ask some advice.

I set to change the plotter. The current one is just causing to many problems, delays and waste.

I’d like to know if anyone can advise me on the following:

    Summa Cut D60 Pharos
    Graphtec FC7000-60
    Graphtec CE5000-60

Now I know (or hope) they will all be a drastic improvement over the current plotter but does one stand out over the others? Is the FC7000 series worth going the extra compared to the CE5000?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks
    Kenny
