Which Broadband Supplier

Just about to upgrade manin PC to allow me to move into digi printing.
My current pc connected to broadband is probably now considered slow, it is a dell 2.1 gig with 512Mb memory.
My broadband supplier is AOL and more and more recently being connected is slowing my computer down to unreasonable speeds, looking in task manager something named WAOL.exe is often taking up 90-100% of my capacity.
I know that my new pc will probably solve this problem but I might as well look at other broadband suppliers…….. I am looking particularly at Tiscali at the moment, does anybody have further advice for me, I don’t require full on business broadband, just something cheap and effective.

Hi Ian, I have free broadband from Orange, comes with my mobile package and has been brilliant. I believe that Aol (which takes over your computer) and the likes of Tiscali can get bogged down with traffic in high demand times, but you may not been using it at those times so may be ok.
By the way I am looking to sell my Dell Zeon processor computer if you are interested?

Use a supplier that provides a router/modem.
This means the router is doing all the connection work and your computer is just connected to it as a network, you then don’t have to run any additional software on your computer and you can have more than one computer connected to it.Most ISP’s now supply a router, BT internet, Orange, madasafish to name a few.
I use Madasafish as I’ve been using Freenetname (bought by Madasafish) for years. They seem ok and speeds are good, I’m a long way from the exchange and I’m on a fixed 2meg download speed, it sometimes even gets close to 2meg.
My Uniform Cadet is run from a Dell with a 2.53ghz processor and 2gig RAM using Wasatch softrip 6.4, it runs no problems.
The main thing is to have a lot of RAM and no unnecessary processes running, like AOL.
I think your current computer would be ok with a fresh install and more RAM but it’s good to have 2 computers then you can have all the office and design software running on one and the printer and rip on the other.Steve

Bt Business braodband would be my choice. no problems with speed and on the odd occasion that I have had a problem, you get to talk to a person with good English albeit usually with a Scottish accent 😉

I have a basic pay as you go package with Plus net (www.plus.net) I have a 2 gig bandwidth limit per month included in the price and if I go over I just get charged another £1 or so for another – even so all in about £10 – £11 a month. I have a wireless router and it serves 2 adult and 2 children requirements.
