  • which application tape would be the most suitable to use?

    Hi folks,

This might seem a bit of a ‘dumb’ question but here goes anyway:

I’ve been asked to produce printed graphics/sponsors logo etc for a national motorcycle race team which in itself is not a problem and makes my investing in the SP-300 seem more like the right move. This could lead to bigger and better orders if I get it right.

Having bought ‘team sticker sheets’ etc in the past they came without app tape and to be honest were a pig to peel and fit decently. So my dilemma is do I supply these with or without app tape? and if so then would you recommend standard (medium tac) app paper tape or clear?

Obviously I want to supply top quality from the outset to hopefully ensure an expansion of work through recommendation so your advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and I trust it’s not too dumb a question. Having just got the printer I’m on a big learning curve here.

i don’t print but, in years gone by i used to buy and retail lots of them, from my experience….

if you’re laminating them i would say not, if you’re not laminating and they’re gonna be used fairly soon then yes. if you’ve no idea how long until they’re used up, don’t bother! if tape (ok, paper) gets damp it will stick like death to a sickle, if you use tape then heat can cause it to shrink and wrinkle on the decal,

maybe better to use a more manageable material and non lam.

Thanks Hugh….should have said non laminated. Any recommendations regarding the most suitable vinyl as the topic has been raised?

I was going to use Grafityp 512 white gloss.

O would try to laminate if you can for better results, if not try:

hexis do a very thick printable white (about 170microns)
    or try
All Print Supplies, anti scuff 3005

Metamark are releasing a thick vinyl too around July

we had the contract (2yrs) for the malboro yamaha (Biaggi n co)500gp team few years ago to do all there paint work and gfx, now we could only apply x amount of in weight paint/gfx to each fairing/seat/tank, they always wanted the lightest/thinest vinyl as possible and also as they said dont worry about laminating etc its too heavy AND it wont last long anyways 🙄 And they were right Biaggi went thru more body work in a month than all there other riders did all year 😀 Thankyou Biaggi 😉 😛

Thanks Alan……having done one set this evening I think the customer will go with the Grafityp I already have. It’s come out better than I thought…tough and ‘handleable’ without being too thick.

Thanks for the information folks …you’ve been a mine of information as usual…
