  • which adhesive to use for 3D letter fixings

    Hi All,

I’m doing a job with 19mm Foamex lettering & they are to be fitted to a heavily pebble dashed wall. I am planning to use M6 Hex head bolts & bond them to the back of the letters & then drill the wall & fill with adhesive to hold the threaded end of the bolts leaving a space of approx 20-25mm.

Any suggestions on the best adhesive to use. Would something like Tech7 do the job?

Also would it be better to use Stainless bolts or would galvanised / zinc coated be OK giving that part will be exposed. Don’t want rust drips appearing after a while?

    Regards
    Myles

How big are the letters Myles? Rather than use metric bolts you might be better with something like Bighead fasteners bonded to the back of the letters. They are designed for such an application & will be far better in the long term. You will get a better bond because of the increased surface area of the fastenings.

Adhesive wise, if I’m ever unsure what to use I give Eurobond a call, have always been very helpful when I have asked for advice.

    Hi Martin,

Letters are approx 380mm height, so not huge. I did check out the Bighead fixings & they are very good, but with a difference in cost of about 80 euro between them & the hex head bolts I thought I’d see what adhesive would be best for the bolts. I would have thought that a good structural adhesive liberally applied behind & around the bolts would do the trick as there will be no great force on the letters when fitted. I did also think I could perhaps countersink the heads into the back of the letters by about 8-10mm to give a better fix if required.

I’ve emailed Eurobond so will see what they suggest.

I think also Stainless would be best thinking about it as not a great deal of difference in cost for the bolts.
