    Help,
Iv’e been asked to create a printed logo on micro dot for the windows of a van.
I know the subject has been discussed before but for the life of me I cannot find it.

Are you looking for a supplier of ‘Holy’ vinyl to print on?
U can see out – but not see in?
There’s ‘Panorama’ from Vinyl Logistics Tel: 01636 613222

    Thanks Dave,
There was discussion on creating a similar thing using two layers of vinyl and cuting stripes in it.
I think it was Rob who mentioned how it was done.
However, can they print it to specific colours?

    Many thanks

    Hi Keith
It’s in white – assumed that printers wish to print on it.
Do you want a specific colour?

Is your previous solution a strip of vinyl and then a strip ‘missing’.
That would do the trick – ingenius application.

Perhaps Rob will see your post soon.

    hi keith
im not sure where that post is.. maybe try the search engine.. failing that it is pretty easy done.

lets take it your printed graphic is 24inch x 24inch

    if using signlab:

make a rectangle on the screen 24inch wide by 2mm high
go to array and set the format to “stack” (one on top of other)
set the space at 2mm also.
set the number to about 100 or so.. so that it exceeds the 24 inches high & apply.
you should be left with a pile of 2mm lines spaced at 2mm
    then save it.

this can be done in almost in software package but im unsure on how to go about it.. so i hope that helps in producing the line set-up accurately.

    back to the print.
assuming you have just printed your image onto “white” vinyl.
load this into your cutter & basicaly cut the lines right over the top of the printed image.
then very carefuly weed away every “second” line.
tape it up and apply as normal.
again be careful when stripping the tape as you dont want to loose a line.
    thats it! all done.

it basicaly does the exact same job as the clear veiw stuff. the bonus is!
you dont have to buy in the vinyl
it does “not” hold rain water like the perforated vinyls
infact, you may want to cut the lines vertical. this way the water will run clear every time.

i dont think it really matters what colour you see from the inside. if black is prefered then the easy way to achieve this is to apply white vinyl ontop of black. then print the graphic.
next cut the lines over the print.
(BE SURE TO CHECK IT WEEDS PROPERLY BEFORE TAKING THE VINYL OUT OR MOVING IT. AS YOU MAY NEED TO RE-CUT OVER IT ALL AGAIN IF IT ISNT WEEDING. “PRESSURE TEST FIRST – PRESSURE TEST FIRST”)

ive typed this pretty fast, sorry. if i havent made sense on something, just say. ill try reply asap.
    😉

hi tony. i dont have any at hand. but im sure you will probably have seen a bus that has been wrapped in an advert printed on vinyl?
it covers the whole bus, windows too.. the good thing is that although the windows have been covered. the folk in the inside can still see out pretty much as normal! 😮
you may also have see the sunglasses folk wear to football matches. they have the england flag or whatever printed on the lenses! again this is done in the same fashion… 😉
another pretty famous one was the huge office block that had been covered by a picture of ronaldo crashing through it.
agin same type of thing and everyone inside the building could see out perfectly fine.. even though from the outside the building was head to toe in printed vinyl.

no probs keith best of luck mate…

tony i would imagine it would be legal. it doesnt look much differnt from a tinted window from inside. ontop of that i have seen about a dozen vehicles that cover the drivers window & i have never heard of any restrictions with the stuff.. front window i would say yes “illegal” though… 🙄
