Full thread on the subject 😀

Only problem is, don’t know anyone who has tried this yet and I’ve been too busy to follow it up 😕 I’ve been doing it with cut vinyl and a clear vinyl overlaminate, and its holding up fairly well. Next thing I’m trying is printing the graphics on the PC60 and see if the 500micron stuff makes a big difference.

    Hope this helps anyway 😀

    Cheers, Dewi

Chris, I’ve just been using regular vinyl, Oracal 751. Rereading the thread, it does seem as if alot of the moto x graphics are done by printing (via an edge) onto vinyl, then laminating up with the big ole laminate stuff. Getting the thicker, tougher vinyl may be all well and good, but when you print on it, you’ll still have to laminate I think 😕

I think its definately the Convex stuff… I think Nigel from Creative Signs has the contact details for them. I’ll try and give him a ring over the next week (if he’s not on holiday or snowed under with work)

There is another company called the “the stickerman” he uses the same stuff as Danger UK but again it seems as if they wanna keep what material they use to themselves.

N-style are a company in the states who produce the same motocross decals and their decals are on a brown release paper marked with “SCOTCH 3m High Performance” again have tried to find this adhesive to laminate to thicker non adhesive vinyl but to no avail, and 3m wont answer your e-mails.

If you put normal vinyl onto low surface energy plastics ie motocross bikes it will not last, the first time its jet washed after a race meeting they WILL come off.

The only way I have made graffix like the MX thick stuff is to print or cut everything in reverse/mirror image then stick it to clear static cling film then apply a hi bond 3M film to the back and cut to shape they will never come off and never get damaged I used to make them all the time for Joe Cook (ex British Chamionship MX rider) who is my son and now my partner in crime.

It’s quite time consuming but works really well.

Danger UK do some great work and really know what they are doing when it comes to race graffix and it’s not as easy as you think.

Thats exactly how i used to do them, I agree, Danger Uk do some great stuff and i used to use their graphics myself for my bike. I along with a few others would just like to know what material they are using.

I see you are in their neck of the woods fancy paying them a visit on our behalf ?l 😉

We have many clients here in the States that are using Convex to create the really thick decals for the Moto Cross bikes.

I thought it was about £3 a metre. Remember these sticker sets cost around £50 form Danger etc for less than a 1m worth. How cheap do you want it?

Here is the exact price of the Convex material from Sign and Digital in Ireland.

    1 x roll Convex 6mil clear 15″x45.72mt £140.70
    1 x roll Convex 8mil Laminate 13″x 45.72mt £120.60
    Delivery £30.82

    Total price £292.12

When making the graphics you must laminate them to protect them so price per meter of vinyl and laminate £3.19 (without print cost’s)

No way would i sell them to cheap, i ain’t in the game of undercutting people to get work, I have ridden a motocross bike most of my life, and have subsequently purchased “graphic kit’s”, i now make them, I know what they cost !

Not sure about the pc60 Dewi, I did wonder myself. The vinyl comes sprocketed @ 380mm wide. When I spoke to them they were happy to sell me in 5m rolls so give them a try and let us know if the pc60 is ok.

    Do you edge them racer?

    Cheers

I’ll give it a lash 😀 Be interesting to see where we all go on this though, as I’ve recently spoken to quite a few ppl about the motoX graphics from NStyle and DangerUK, and most aren’t overly worried about the prices, more about the lack of choice when it comes to designs. S’pose it’s like anything else, everyone wants an original 😕

    Hi Dave,

mmmm the way i used to do it if i had say another make of kit that i wanted to scan is to draw a line or more across the item you want to scan
Import the scanned images into Corel and line up the sections you have scanned with the reference lines you made. Once done draw round it with the Beizer tool and hey presto you have the shape you require. Or go visit an architects office who may have a large format scanner.
