  • where can I can buy plain white MODEL transit vans?

Posted by Gavin MacMillan on November 21, 2008 at 10:18 am

Hiya, does anyone know where I can buy plain white transit models? Not sure what scale, something like 1:32 – we have done more models than vans in the last few days and it would be nice to offer the model instead of the customer buying them off ebay.

I could get them from the same place but would rather buy them from a proper supplier if possible.

A nice we add-on I think, to offer people a model if they are getting a van done and worth a few more quid if we supply the model.

    Cheers for any suggestions.

‘Airfix’ style must be available online.

And di-cast models too I suppose.

Aye, you would think so… maybe just me but I can’t find any. Lots of different ones that are branded but nothing plain!

I did a couple for customers as a freebee went down very well. I bought them of Ebay, and I do a lot of stickers for a guy who does them for birthdays etc.

    Cheers

    thanks for the links…

i am after artic, tanker, box vehicles and the like as opposed to vans.
i have a tanker right now which is fine but the cab unit is black and ill need to respray it. trouble is,"in my view" the finish is crap. the customer loves them though and told me not to worry but its not the point for me… i want it right.
i plan sticking a few of this sort of thing out to our regular customers for Christmas. i.e. scaled models of the fleets we provide them.

Cheers for all the replies, seems plain white models are rarer and rocking horse poo! I can get a mwb one on ebay, I’ll need to go for that for this job and forget the idea of stocking them!

    Just out of interest.

What material are you making the stickers from?

I did some to go on the roofs of some mini models for a local mini club and used clear vinyl and printed them on the Edge.

Patrick it would be interesting about your painting technique.
i use either 40mic wrap white or clear printed by my pc60 or soljet, the thinner material is less noticeable.
some people use cheap label machines but not very creative.
i found that customers dont realize the time it would take to copy a design but if you have done there van, you only have to scale down there art work.

hi Chris i would disassemble the model and mask of any parts that didn’t need painting then
1 using 800 grade wet n dry sand paper give the soon to be painted areas a light sanding

2 then instead of using primer i use plastic primer first this will stick to anything then a quick light sand with 800 sandpaper

3 then a light mist of primer allow to dry then another coat of primer

4 another quick sanding with the 800 then apply 2 or 3 coats of 2k paint from an aerosol leave to dry over night and it will be ready the next day to apply graphics etc it sounds longer than it is

Just got a reply from Corgi…………basically get lost

    quote :

    Hello Graeme,

I have been passed your enquiry with regards to the supply of blank die-cast models.
Unfortunately as policy we do not supply blank models. We can however supply bespoke models fully liveried to your requirements.
The minimum order quantity for a Corgi Premiums is 1200 😮 pieces. I am happy to supply guide prices, all I will need is the vehicle type and the vehicle decoration.

I look forward to your response.

    Regards,

    Ricki Curtis

    Premiums Manager

Could get round this by stating the company uses a small black dot as a logo….. :lol1:

I’m not surprised Graeme, I phoned them and they thought I was a complete idiot for wanting a blank van. I’m still working on it though!

With the time involved and paying £10-£20 for the model, how much are customers paying for these finished?

OK I understand if you have one or two really good customers it is worth the effort.

I’ve done quite a few models, wagons, diggers etc.
They are mainly supplied by the customer though as I’ve found you can rarely get the right van etc.

Saw a white model transit die cast van in Conwy over the weekend and found the maker is Hongwell in china. Found this link off their site for a dealer here.
