Hi Tim
xp and vista……and mac….but I doubt x3 would run on a mac? -
X3 won’t run on a MAC. I have a soft spot for X3 as that was the first one I was invited to be involved with and in my opinion was a large leap forward over V12 especially for signmakers – that said if you import files from others go for X5 as the import filters are better. X4 and X5 will incorporate search in the open dialogue box (not in XP) which is handy and X5 also comes with Connect which I’m starting to warm to and colour management is better too. You are best not to get student versions as they may not have VBA and that is required for Winplot and the like apart from the licence which is not for profit use. X3 will be quicker on older machines. The upgrade cost from any version to X5 is not a fortune and a web search will get the best deal and Amazon is not bad. The latest version of Winplot will work with X5 but you may need to set the AI export to V8

Hi,
I am using X5 and Winplot works without any problem just download the latest one from the summa web site.

Thanks Alan and Ian
Alan…does x5 run on vista and xp?
I want the system which will have a plugin so that it is easy for my new employee to use, cutting to summa D60 straight from the corel page? just so that it is time saving for us both…..
or will everything still need exporting to Ai ?
would be nice to keep it simple….C

Cheryl I would contact Corel directly.
I just upgraded from 12 to X5.
I got a good deal too.
They would have the right answers for you.

I had tried purchasing X3 on Amazon.com but was sent an OEM copy which I couldn’t cut from.
Luckily I was able to return that.

I have got all my versions from ebay. All legit software and must be complete package not just a few loose discs and always at a great price. 😎

lol, well lets be honest at some of the prices these companies charge for the software it’s a wonder anyone does at all! I have had a rogue copy of CS5 on my home pc as I wanted to see if it was worth upgrading from CS4 but that’s only because I cant get to have a real hands on try in the free trial periods they give because they are to short for my scheduling. They always end up not getting used, and when I do get a chance to have a play it’s always expired. Professionally everything is spot on!
I use Versaworks and have X5 on a windows 7 pro 64bit operating system. I can go direct to versaworks from Corel, especially with the data field tool so that I can set up sequential numbering for labels. I haven’t ried printing direct to the printer from there yet.

Cheryl X5 will work with XP and Vista (ensure uptodate service packs are installed) but I think the real benefits are with Windows 7. Winplot will put 2 buttons into Draw, 1 to automatically place opos marks the other to cut. The cut button automatically runs Winplot and that takes over. Winplot is simple so you may find yourself doing more in Draw ie step and repeat as I sometimes find Winplot unpredictable but it could be I’m not used to it.

Alan – do you know where I can get another download of the X3 installer as have managed to corrupt it a bit – can only find for latest X5 on Corel (and other sites) and I only have X3 Licence. Still works on my desktop with a bit of prompting – but trying to get for my laptop.
Ta.

I don’t off the top of my head, not sure how the installer has corrupted on the original disk but if it is already on the computer a F8 restart of Draw and accepting factory defaults normally sorts quirky Draw behaviour.

Thanks Alan – will give that a try.
I dont have the original disks for X3 (at least I cant find them…). Have all the disks etc. for Corel 12, and think I paid for upgrade – but as a download and no disks – now the download files are X5 only it seems from Corel site. I must learn to save backups more…
