  • where can i buy a Cadet in the States please?

Posted by steve geary on September 22, 2005 at 7:05 pm

I’d like to consider a cadet in my quest for a print/cut machine. Haven’t found any sales in the states yet. Any Idea’s why?

Oh, and on the language thing.. When exactly do I use "Cheers" ?
(could be some interesting replys on that one)
    and maybe some definitions…
    dosh
    bloke
    quid
.. I have an ideaon some, but not sure of the context…

well u have to put up with us foreigners!
You ideally need a print machine that you can good support from you local suppliers, JV3 is popular in the US, one of the bigger peoples is NuSign, also it seem bulk ink systems are popular in the US.

Cheers = Thanks (normally the beer exchange in payment for a favour (or favor))
    dosh = money slang
    bloke/geezer = person
quid = £ sterling pound. Slang for Pound

I guess u knew that anyway.

Yep what Dave said and here is my version … seeeing as I typed it at same time as Dave aka Quick Fingers thought I’ll post anyway: :lol1:

Cheers = thanks or you say it when you clang your glasses together.
    Dosh = Money
    Bloke = Man, Male, Him
    Quid = a 1 pound coin (£1)

    So …

Cheers for helping me out with moving that heavy bit of furniture.

I have no dosh Im poor!!

That bloke is very nice!! or That bloke stinks!

The car park machine only takes quids!! or Do you have a quid you could loan me?!!

:lol1: :lol1: Im sure others might explain it different??

Brian, Steve and others… how does Hurricane Rita effect you blokes? or is it too far away?

B&P (or uniform) read this forum but I suspect they will have american contacts. However how do you call them out if the heads damage? It’s a long trip from the UK

Rita… Not much at the moment,

    Katrina though….

Well oil for one, although it was high before it, and now they just have a good excuse for ripping us off. I see how it jacks up oil now, no electricity to a lot of refineries.
Also N’Orleans is a big port for export and import.. 3rd largest in the world. Right now it’s blocked and will be hurting just bout most of our economy. No exports… more expensive shiping for the imports, going around it.

Our economy is a mess so as it is, but it’ll no doubt be worse because of Rita. I blame Bush. I’d love to have and honest leader in this country who wasn’t born into Money.
My father lives on the pan handle in florida, and he’s effected moreso than the rest of us, that are far away. Suprisingly it’s not too bad in florida. So, honestly, it’s effecting me about the same as the war, can’t do much about it… only effects me in my bills and at the gas pumps.
I didn’t have anyone close to me seiously effected, but I feel for the people that are there. i’m sure it’s horrible.
i just saw a show on it on Histroy or discovery channel… It was very informative. From what they explained, this has been predicted for some time. The City has been sinking, and eroding because of man made water inlets and just being a swamp, and the levees were very outdated.
Look for the show.. it’s interesting

i am actually watching on broadband a news channel called 4WWL around the New Orleons area… they are talking about rita and katrina non-stop, very interesting as it is headline news here.

There has been a lot of madness going on here, when Katrina hit our gas prices went to £1 a litre which is the first time ever in the UK, most of that money goes back to the government as tax. However prices remained high and we had ‘panic buying’ for fuel as we have protestors complaining about the price, this actually made the government a billion profit.

However I understand Houston is a oil producing state and it is a big player in the oil industry, it will send our prices up again.

We use different cars to americans, mine is a 1.9Turbo Diesel and that is considered a medium sized engine here, so it cost us £40 for about 500-600 miles

I see people are better prepared this time for this hurricane.

    Thanks Robert,
I’d like to check into a cadet more… From uniform’s site… they show no dealer options in the us at the moment.

I know the topic’s been beat to death, but how about you give me your opinion on what machine/setup you’d go after if you were me….

    -I have a 24″ cutter now
I would like print and cut in one machine and a laminator for under $20,000
    or something else???
    Cheers!

Thanks for asking. Like Steve said (tho I don’t agree with his politics 😀 ), gas prices will be the most immediate impact but I am far enough away that the weather should have minimimal effect.

    Cheers Mate

Isn’t the Cadet a converted Roland? Or was that another machine???

Steve any reason why you are steering away from the Mutoh? Did you find out any more info?

I’m not positive, (because i’ve ben so busy to check it out more), but I don’t think the mutoh cuts… i looked at my quote from EPS and it seems they were setting me up with two machines…. I have one cutter already.
again…. need more time to research, then i get reminded by some posts and start asking questions here.

Any body have any 36 hour days for Sale?

    Dave,
The huricane was as far away from where I live in California as Malta is to you guys. My friends from Wales that were just out here couldn’t believe how big the United States actually are. I think California is as big, if not bigger than the U.K.

Marek, I understand that the huricane is the size of the UK (400 miles wide)

I know there are a few more regular posters out there, just really looking oversea to see how you doing

Looks like you lot are fairly safe.

The Mutoh is a strongly built machine, I understand these new ones are good prints.. cant say much more about mutoh these days.

    Thanks for the concern Dave.
I think most of us are far enough away. I was just at the airport on Monday where that plane had to have an emergency landing though. Anyone catch that?
Oh, and Steve, I don’t know why we don’t have Cadet’s here. 🙂

Steve… We have a 54″ Cadet and as stated on previouse posts can see no real advantage in the solvent machine when you have to laminate anyway.
The new inks from Roland are very good.

We just had a new problem with our machine.. The wiper mechanisme just jamed up and dryed out along wth the drip catcher thingy and caused a service call message. After contacting the engineers we fixed the problem with some flush fluid and cleaning the parts ourselves yet the machine prints every day.
You really have to clean very regulary and check every thing is soaked in solvent solution.
So check what rodney gold says and go with the 54″ unconverted Versacamm.

    Thanks Marty,
good good stuff to think about….
… I love Rodneys posts…. sometimes i feel I should be sending a check to some of the people here!

Yes Steve they are print only. Having a sep cutter has it’s advantages because you can cut other jobs as the machine as printing. The orginal set up I was looking at was a 62″ printer/58″ or so Graphtec Cutter and was cheaper then the Roland Versacamm. I think the cutting is much faster on the Graphtec and you have the option of running it inline with the printer. Now that the new Mutoh Solvent Machine came out I am really confused!!! It also comes in Eco Sol that can be converted to Solvent as well.

That Mutoh looks similar to our Mutoh, stuff doesn’t change much as I see they are still using metal bars for the take up, the JV3 just has holders which I find easier.

Steve, if looking at that Warehouse link, don’t forget RIP’s, Onyx is a strong popular RIP for a lot of printers, Wasatech (however you spell it) is also popular and strong RIP, I understand that Troop (that comes with Uniform products) is a badget FlexiSign (am i right?). I use Shiraz but not popular in the US.

There are companies in North America doing hot solvent conversions on the Roland products if that’s the route you want to go. One such company is Splash of Colour: http://www.splashofcolor.com

Like Dave said, the Mimaki is a popular product in North America with a really strong support structure. It’s a really good product too and it produces very nice results. Sure, the Mimaki isn’t an all in one product like the Versa/Cadet but you may actually prefer the separates…

    Good luck on your quest.
