  • When signmakers pull together

We are in Stoke on Trent. Recently a young boy drowned in a local beauty spot, he was in a dingy with friends, mucking about like 12 year olds do, they all fell in the water, his friends swam to shore but sadly he drowned.

Reading this story made us very sad as we have grandchildren around that age, both boys.

My husband saw a Facebook post from a local man whom as a child also lost a friend in a swimming accident. He asked for laminated paper leaflets so he could put them around every water area in Stoke. My husband contacted the chap and offered our services. While printing the leaflets, he thought these won’t last long, let’s make them proper signs. But 200 was abit too much for us as a little firm, so he reached out to a few local signmakers in our area.

The fire brigade supplied the artwork.

I’m glad to say we got a great response, last week the chap picked up 100 A4 printed flat panel signs, there’s nearly another 100 sitting on my desk ready for him this week. Hopefully they will make a child think twice before swimming in water that can be dangerous.

So I’d just like to thank those signmakers who have given already, those who we have yet to pick up or drop off. You know who you are – many thanks xx

I just thought, while they are "our competition " those we asked said yes without any hesitation.

:claps: Well done Denise & everyone involved :claps:

Sounds like a worthy story to go in one of the sign mags, and the local paper

Brilliant Denise, fair play to you all. I find we’re all competitors until one of us need some help. I live in Londonderry in Northern Ireland. We have the "River foyle" which takes many many lives constantly. Some by accident, most unfortunately by suicide. Its nice to help out when we can.

Terrible tragedy and waste of a young life, Denise.
But great to see how your local sign makers all helped out, well done them! and well done to you and Kev for making the decision to try help and by instigating the joint effort in the first place. :claps:

Sadly it’s an all too common occurrence. A young teenager here in Ireland recently lost his life in a quarry whilst playing with his mate. Innocent fun ending in disaster.
Something as simple as a little sign may be all it takes to put that element of doubt in somebody’s mind & make them turn away.
Well done Denise & all involved. :praiseyou:
