when I’m old … (well really old!)
Just sitting here having this discussion with Emily and she’s decided that when I’m of pensionable age I’m going to be a single old lady who is an old hippie with a dog for a partner ( the 4 legged variety!!!!). :lol1: According to her I’ll be wandering the park in my bare feet talking to animals …………. This is because as usual I’m sitting here with the dog resting her head on my laptop as I type and I’m sitting here in a maxi dress with messy hair ………………. talking to the dog as if she’s the love of my life ………….. I fear I’m already there! 😮 :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
So what do you all see yourself doing by the time your 70?

Well.
if I have not gone more senile than I am now, I see myself thinking and doing exactly the same as I do now, which is more or less what I did 30 years ago, just that I do it more slowly….Peter

recently a friend and I were doing some repair work on the house when we dropped a tool we are both in the mid 60’s with bad backs so we looked at it then at each other then agreed that we would leave it there till something else dropped and that would make it worth the effort to bend down. I guess the big difference is the floor is simple further away and so much harder to reach

My dad is 72, and my mum is 70. Dad reckons they worker harder in their retirement that they did when they were on a wage, trying to survive on a pension.
So if that is any indication of what is ahead of me, I’ll not be retiring, but working until I’m bundled off to a nursing home or something. 😮
At least the dog loves you no matter what you look like Marcie, as long as you feed the dog, give it some attention, he/she will be your friend for life.
Our 4yo dog has arthritis pretty bad, in this cold weather she sleeps on our bed, with a heat pack on her hips, her own blanket and whatever else her little heart desires. My wife fusses over her like a newborn.
It all worth it though, when the dog crawls up beside me every morning and nuzzles her nose and face up to mine and gives me gentle nudges and tender kisses on my cheek. The wife is as jealous as anything.
I told the wife she needs to learn from the dog! and she tells me I need to learn when to keep my trap shut, or I will never make 70 😳

When I am 70 I will be drooling in a corner trying to remember my own name.
But alas, I already do that.
As far as a partner is concerned, as long as they can change my diaper I would probably settle for that.

I’m aiming for a nice big garden full of fragrant plants a big rambling house maybe somewhere warmer just pottering around in the garden keeping bees (Ive always wanted to keep bees) maybe just maybe still doing a very small amount of property development (if gardening and bee keeping isn’t keeping me busy enough!! but not doing any of the work myself)

It varies between individuals as well. Some people are old at fifty, whilst others are still youngsters at ninety. I think age has more to do with outlook rather than the mere passing of years.

Yeah it varies. My mum is 73 and refers to other people her age ‘an auld woman’ but doesn’t include herself in that category! Neither do I, my mum looks great for 73 and always up to something!

I’m not quite sure what she means, but I keep putting her off. She can’t have long now.
Although, I was thinking the same 12 years ago.

Gareth, I’d take the opportunity to get to know her mate. She has seen an amazing period of world history, and can no doubt recount stories of your wifes early family. She may even have some embarrassing moments in your wifes youth. Always good to have that up your sleeve if the wife threatens to tell the kids of your own embarrassing gafs….
I’ve got some friends of my family who are well into their 80’s. They were living in my area when the street I’m living in now was a goat track, and part of a huge dairy farm. The stories they tell firsthand are better than reading the same experiences in a book.

I’ve got to agree with Shane on this one Gareth.
I regret not speaking more to my elderly relatives, not just for embarassing moments, but about their experiences and their lifestyles in general.
Miss the opportunity, and it’s gone forever. 🙁

Sorry both, I was only joking around with a possible play on her words. The fact that she makes it sound like she is trying to get me into her bed.
Hence the poppy eyed smilies.
She’s a lovely old lady and yes, she has had an amazing life and tells a great story.
I can only hope to achieve all that she has and continues to.
But, I am NOT getting in her bed.
