  • when applying wet to windows vinyl still wont stick?

Everyone keeps telling me to use the wet application technique when applying vinyl to windows. I tried it before and the vinyl just does not stick once I wet the backing. I was using the Window Juice. Is there some other spray that I can use that will make the vinyl stick better and not have to worry about it coming off on the application tape?

    Thanx,
    Denise 😕

If your applying straight forward text then I would do it dry otherwise you will have to wait for it to dry before been able to remove the application tape….as you have already noticed 😀 😀

We only use wet application if we are fitting large blocks of vinyl and we arent using application tape.

just make sure the window is clean, free from any grease and if your lucky not too humid!!

im a dry guy 100% cant remember the last time i used a wet application.

i know exactly what you mean though.. plenty folk here do use wet app and get by just fine. so waite around and im sure you will get a reply.
as for me.. well, i can only guess the best method for you would be to use something like rapid-tac. from what i am told. it has an adhesion activating chemical in it. which supposedly helps adhere better but still with the same amount of give as a normal wet app..
who knows.. it may well work. 🙄 😉

I’ve recently completed a job using over 50 metres of 1m deep etched vinyl to the lower half of the windows in an all glass reception area. For much of it I didn’t need application tape and just pulled the backing off (a two man job) and sprayed loads of water with some washing up liquid in to both the vinyl and the window. It’s then just a matter of sliding into place.

However, the same mix of washing up liquid and water was far too slippery for 8″ graphics and I just used plain water. After gaining a little confidence the remaining lettering went on dry but you have to explain that the ‘snail’ like appearance will disappear as the vinyl settles down.

I’d previously used a rapid-tac type product for a similar application and found no great benefits whatsoever.

If you’re in the States…Rapid tac for sure. I use a similar product here and it gives you work time to reposition once squegeed it sticks. I then wet the app tape and it releases from the vinyl. easy peasy.

I’m getting used to the dry method since attending the Sign School’ however if I’m on my own and its a large piece of vinyl I’ll opt for wet application.

As Lee says once applied, spray the application tape.
leave for a while (get on with something else)
Go back and it will peel away without snatching at the vinyl underneath
