whats the proper way to opening an .eps file in X3 please?
is there a secret to opening .eps files in X3 ?
I’ve opened a new sheet, right clicked and selected import – choose the .eps file .. i get the IMPORT EPS option box pop up – but no matter what i choose (import as editable text or curves / Place as encapluated PS) – all options come up with :
An Error occurred while processing ‘file.eps’ The file cannot be opened 😥
please tell me i’m doing something wrong… 😳

in simple terms, EPS is supposed to be pretty straight forward file script format, it derives from early postscript which is used as a transfer format.
PDF has become a better standard, also based on EPS.
Illustrator is designed around Postscript, so it is more likely to open the file, corel has to ‘convert’ the file to some to work correctly… so you will only open say 80% of EPS files, but all files must be checked over with a proof

Is there anyway of getting a .eps file that will not open resaved into a .cdr file ?…
or is that something you;d have to be a full member on here to use other people’s services / goodwill ?

This eps might have been made with a more recent version of a program (probably Illustrator CS2 or CS3 if I had to guess) that’s not backwards compatible. I could try to open the file and save it back as an Illustrator 8 eps (or whatever you recommend as I don’t use Corel). Just let me know if I can help. It’s possible that you can use something like GhostScript to extract out the postscript data from the encapsulation. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile … _id=108733
You’ll probably want to download the win32 exe version (second from bottom). This a freeware GPL program. You might have to append the .eps to .ps on the Windows side as Windows can be a little finicky with its file names.

Should be able to open eps in corel as a file format.

Importing an EPS file in Corel as editable relies on Corel interpreting it correctly and although Corel does a good job of this there are always eps files of ‘dubious perantage’ that can cause problems. AI files from the very latest Adobe offerings will always be a problem until the other vendors catch up with their filters, one way I’ve found which helps with dodgy files is to import the eps as a ‘placed’ file this may well show on screen as a low res bitmap or a grey rectangle if no header is included, print this to either Acrobat or the ‘device independent postscript file’ option which is in Draw and then import that as a editable eps and you may get a result – do watch out for font issues though.
