I’ve been asked to do some laser engrave on acrilics but the lettering must be color filled, what’s the better way to go?

I was thinking in masking, spray the engraved and then remove the mask but the tests i’ve done soo far won’t work acrilic edges come a bit burned. Wrong mask, wrong power, should i do it in several passes (i would prefer to do it in just one pass it is more then 200 plaques 😉 )?

    I have an Indimco/ILS 30W table is 610×457.
Any advice on this would be apreciated.

    A bit off topic:
yes for those whom thought i wasn’t goin to come back here i’m alive and kicking, ocasionally i’ve been looking the boards but i’ve been tooooo busy to read all topics , i hope i’ve more time from now on. I couldn’t take the time to post as usual but shortly (i hope) i’ll have a bit more time to trow my 2p when needed 😉 .

    Best regards

Its pretty easy to engrave for paint filling in a single pass with 30W
You want to use the paper based transfer tape used for applying vinyl as a mask.
Laser the acrylic at about double the power (or 1/2 the speed) you would use for frosting acrylic.
Use a water based acrylic paint not solvent!!! – the laser puts incredible stress into the pex and thus solvents make stress cracks or craze the acrylic.
Another thing to be aware of is that EXTRUDED acrylic will not frost or engrave well at all , make sure what you use is CAST.
Way to check is burn a piece , if it burns silent with molten flaming balls its extruded , if it burns with a crackly flame and doesnt drip , it’s cast.
Use about 500 dpi for this type engraving. PPI shouyld also be 500 and you must run air assist (you do have air assist ? if you dont GET it!!)

Thx Rod, i knew you would give me the right answer.
Yes i do have air assist and exaust system, in fact fortunately i bought the machine full extras or i wouldn’t be able to do a few things i’ve already done.

Anyway there are a lot of questions with no answer yet, but i’ll do te right questions in the proper time.

    Many Thx for your help.
