Printed a job on the edge.

Full colour, printed in reverse onto clear. Topped of with white flood. The job turned out pretty good.

But when I gave them to the customer, I peeled 1 off to show her, and the print had mostly turned to reddy orange.

Does anyone have any idea what happened.

    Becky,

Do you mean you looked at the job right after it was printed and it looked fine then and over a period of time it changed colour ?
What make of foil/vinyl did you use out of interest ?

Never heard of anything like this before but sounds a bit worrying 😕

What did you use for the “white flood” , Another foil or something else?
Could it be the white reacted with the print ?

When you print in reverse on the edge you sometimes need to reverse the order of the C M Y also. Did you do this before printing ?

Thats correct nigel. It looked fine after I printed them. Poped them in a bag, the customer picked them up about 5 days later. Showed her 1, and it was “all reddy”.

I was using gerber cmyk, white flood was durocoat. and the cmyk was reversed, so it printed black first etc.

I`ve used the durocoat white on other designs (spot colours, not cmyk) and they were/are fine.

I`m going to print onto white vinyl and run the job again reversed, and see if theres any reaction/differance.

Sounds like a bit of a strange one Becky, might be worth asking Dave Standen or one of the other thermal experts about this I should think. I can only guess at some kind of reaction between the two makes of foil but it sounds unlikely, as I use a mixture all the time too. Let us know how you get on….

    Hi Becky
Sounds like you’ve found a prob with Gerber Magenta being backed with DuraCoat White – I’ve not tried that combination. Let us all know what your investigations bring on.

Errr’m ahemmm – whisper whisper – you could use renown without that problem.

Look forward to your results, but a comment I would make is that mixing different manufacturers foils can have some unexpected results – some are good, some bad.

    Regards Dave Standen

run the job again today. I made sure to use all 1 brand (gerber)

The print look fine (just like last time)

Then I remembered that I stuck one of the first decals on my sample board. Went to look at it, and it was fine. It had not turned “reddy” in fact it was perfect..

So what caused the change?? Was it because I put them in a sealed bag?

as Toya would say “its a mistrey”
