What would be the best vinyl to use for Rowing Oars?
Hi all ive had a guy in asking me to fit decals (basically 3 slanting blocks in yellow apx 130mm x 90mm) to both sides of an oar. He has about 40 oars to do so asking is there a special vinyl out there that would meet this spec? The one he showed me had been painted but with 40 to do hes looking for a better way. Any help appreciated thanks jean

I put some text onto the blades and handles of a friend’s kayak paddles a couple of years ago. Admittedly they were new carbon with a surface finish as good as acrylic, I used Oracle 751 and he’s not said anything about it coming off.

as said all down to the finish if it glass fiber etc. then any good cast will be ok if varnished wood and still has a grain texture not so clever. i would Finish the vinyl 5mm or so short of the edge. if racing oars i would have thought would create adverse drag.
as a note if we eventually have brexit can we have the lead put back in to colours like yellow to make them opaque again

I would think a cast vinyl would do just fine but "without" air egress bubble-free adhesive.
the surface they are applied to will play a big part in the length of time they will last.
I did a quick google and spotted these ones online that are done on "wooden" oars. I imagine these oars will be heavily varnish, which would help. And as Chris said, you can see they have trimmed back 5mm or so from the edge of the blade.Note: These oars are not my work.

Thanks for the response, The design is away from the edge and the oar he showed me was not wood so will go with a cast and see how it goes, thanks again jean
