  • What type of Javelin cutter to buy?

Posted by Ruairi O'Boyle on December 7, 2010 at 9:28 pm

I want to buy a Javelin Cutter and had been set on a 3m one. Today i spoke to someone who recommended going for the 1.5m or 2m options as they are more easily used.

They also suggested looking at the evolution. Now I am not sure what to go with. I basically want it to trim prints and corriboard/forex. What do you guys recommend? I know this topic has been done before but not necessarily addressing the best size as far as I can see! If I am wrong, sorry and hopefully some of you will point me in the right direction.

    Cheers

    Hi Mate

We’ve had a Javelin for years, think its the 3m version, only ever rated it as OK until we bought the ‘big bench’ to go with it. This means you are cutting into a channel rather than onto the work surface, ie, better cuts and longer lasting blades, plus easier to align the cuts and much quicker. One of the lads in the workshop now commented its the best bit of kit we’ve ever bought!

So consider the bench as only then do you get the best out of a Javelin.

    Cheers

We spend more time with the 1.5mtr then the 3mtr jav, the smaller one is easier to use.

Hi we were going to buy the two mtr one but the supplier (JAG) had the 2.1mts which is the same price.
Since many forex boards are 2mts you can cut a sheet in a single cut otherwise, the javelin is fantastic minimum pressure and sharp edges

Only problem I ever had using the Javelin on foamex is the ammount of static it holds!

After cutting you can get a nice little belter from it when you lift it up!

Great bit of cutting kit tho!!

    It was the 3mtr

We used it to cut down prints that were fed through the laminator, straight on the bench.
Most of the time mounted on foamex.

Maybe the laminator caused the static….????

I’ve got the 2.5m with the side lifting things. It isn’t the big bench but the lifting things that are on it. I’ve bolted these down to my bench with a glass top.
