    hi Derek.

i’m no pc expert, but pretty much any internet ready pc will be fine, i would imagine that all new pc’s come with broadband internet built in,

the most important thing is a good amount of ram, a fast processor and good graphics card. imho !

    Try AUT direct

They will build what you want, and prices are great

if the PC is working fine & doing the job leave it, i believe you can download the updates & manually load them. Just visited site & i believe you can also get a CD with the updates on. Why connect a valuable piece of equipment to a network and open it to viruses etc, i run versaworks & just maually update. a load of PCs are Vista now which can be a nightmare as well

    Hi,

Make sure the pc has the correct ports you need to drive your plotter , printer etc (serial , lpt etc ) and if you can Windows XP is best for now.

    Cheers

If you already have a PC with internet access as you obviously do Derek coz you’ve posted on here then I wouldn’t go to the expence of a new PC as others have said.
Don’t use signlab but you should be able to download any updates to the PC you use for the internet and then just transfer them onto a disk and put that in your machine running signlab.

thanks guys i guess its a case of if it ain’t broke leave it alone
so i will get in touch with cadlink about the updates
unless rod is lurking and can help me out.
two of the updates which caught my eye were the half-cut function and the new bitmap editor
basically you can cut the background out really easy saves loads of time

thanks again all for the advice

If you are local enough, I don’t mind having a look for you.. (I had loads of problems with mine, but sorted it out in the end)

Let me know where you are and maybe I can help

Signlab needs the print and cut manager which is a separate programme which can also be loaded to a second computer, you can design on one and send the job to another via network which has the printer attached. Ring Ray a Cadlink I’m sure he can send you a disk with an updated version on, I’m sure there is an ftp site where any internet enabled computer can go to download various build patches which can be transfered via network or disk to your design station. Signlab and the print and cut manager both need patching, not sure if this is done automatically with one patch though.
