Posted by Iain Gordon on July 27, 2005 at 6:09 pm

    hi gang,

I will be working with translucent vinyl for the first time tomorrow and was wondering if it has any little quirks i should watch out for.

Will be applying it to acrylic for a replacement lightbox front.

    Thanks

    Iain

depending on the make it can be a little more “brittle” when weeding.
    otherwise just use as normal

    Thanks for the replies guys..

Its for a 3rd party so i didnt want to cock it up as theres not a lot of money in it, but it could lead to further orders. (maybe thats me being naive)

What Peter said. It is a bit more brittle and will tear if you’re not careful. Of course, being translucent you will probably be applying it to perspex which all vinyls tend to grab quite aggressively. I’m also doing a big lightbox sign tomorrow with almost complete coverage of vinyl. Sometimes I bottle out and apply wet on big stuff, depends how brave I’m feeling.

    I wish!

I must say, this month has been much better than June. Like, 4 times better. Long may it continue. 😎

Iain, dont look at it as 5m, start in the middle, then its only 2.5m!

2.5 mt is still a fair old lump to get down right the first time

Still, if it wasnt for the challenges the job wouldnt be worth doing

    Ian

    it’s lovely to work with…

give it plenty of spray on the vinyl, empty the bottle on the panel and swoosh it about…

    Cheers
