What’s the best bit of kit do you have?
Posted by John Hughes on March 18, 2014 at 8:28 pmWhat’s the best bit of kit do you have that makes your job easier ?
We are looking to invest in new equipment, be it large or small, but what will make our job easier, better, faster etc.
Apart from our printer/cutter and plotter probs our most useful tool we have is a 4 foot power guillotine.

Got to agree with the rolls roller. It’s a great bit of lit. We have 2 here. One of the small ones and our much used larger one. Couldn’t live without them now

CNC router. It allows me to cut complex shapes out of a range of different substrates with an accuracy I couldn’t hope to achieve using hand tools. When doing "volume" work I can set the CNC machine to work whilst I get on to do other things that require my time and attention.

Our Zund G3. Doesn’t give us any problems. Works flawlessly. Makes our job easier and faster. One of those things you don’t know how you did without it until you got it.

My bluetooth speaker and Deezer account is the best thing I have, I love to have the music playing while working!

Surely the answer to that question depends on the type of work you are currently doing John. Difficult to fit a van on a rolls roller so if your only doing vehicle work then it might not be a good investment, or are you looking to move in to markets you don’t currently sell in?

Our printers, without a shadow of doubt. Someone on here once said having a printer was like having a member off staff who didn’t answer back.
All I know is that if the printers are running I’m making good money 😀

OHHH never seen the weeder/sheeter – looks good (how is it with small details?)
Best here, hmmm I love my Mimaki CVJ30

Thanks for the replies 😀
Denise & Iain…. We have a set up at the mo with a laminator and a bench either side which is good the mounting vinyl on boards etc but probably not as efficient as a rolls roller but will look at one at Sign Show,
Also, considering purchasing a flatbed printer so will mean less laying up.Phil & Jason.. Considering the option to get a flat bed cutter although don’t think we can afford a Zund Jason… have been looking at the Suma version.
Martin.. we are general sign makers so do a bit of everything so vehicles etc take no major percentage of our work. Not looking to move in to new markets but always thinking….."can we do this better, quicker etc"
Gary & Colin…. agree, printer is where the money is 😀
Martin G… we don’t do a lot of weeding.. if job has more than one colour we tend to print it !
John M…. ha ha sounds good
Thanks very much

Martin – did you pick this up in the UK? If so do you mind me asking who you got it through?

my Graphtec CE5000 cutting plotter is the best invest I have ever done.
This was my first equipement, no very fast but it paid for itself in 2 months and still makes a lot of money after 6 years of daily use.
I have now other equipments (solvent printer, several laminators, cutting plotters…) but nothing makes more money here than my Graphtec.
